Online Post Bacc at University of Florida

Recommended Posts

Has anyone gone through the post bacc SLP program offered at U of F? I have been in contact with them, but am on the fence just because I am unsure of what to expect and was told that the program typically takes 2 years to complete. I want to finish it in 1 year. The program consists of 10 courses(30 units) and I also want to work 30-40 hours if doable.

I will be graduating in June from UC Davis with degrees in Neurobiology and Human Development. I recently found a love for the SLP career and am frantically searching for a post bacc program that is affordable and reputable. Florida is my top choice right now as is it the most affordable I have found and they basically have open enrollment for student who meet requirements. I have missed most deadlines for other post baccs. Thoughts anyone?

Thanks for the reply! Ive read in a few posts that tuition is about $900 per course? Where can I find that? On their site, I've found a pdf of tuition rates that are way higher.

How is the load there if you are taking classes full time to finish in one year?

Can you give me more info on your experience with the program?

Also congrats on your acceptance to U of M!!!

Yes it's about 900 per course. The full program can take 3 semesters (summer fall spring) if you do 4 classes/semester. I've only done 2 so far but it was very easy to do while working 40 hrs/week. I think if you just google USU SLP Online you'll find what you're looking for.

Some programs don't need you to do the whole post bacc though, so it's good to look into which courses you need to take at all the schools you're targeting.

I also keep getting confused about how much USU will cost. They keep referring me to the link posted above but then I've heard the total cost for the whole program is around 11,000? I am not sure.

However, I'm also planning on working 40 hours a week and taking the USU post bacc online. Other people have said they've done this and done two classes a semester (occasionally three depending on the difficulty of the course) and it was manageable. So we are all in this together! I applied and was accepted like two weeks later, maybe less. I never paid an application fee or sent transcripts... Not sure if was supposed to.

dc2bslp- Do you know if its better to have a post bacc rather than just the prerequisite courses? I have heard from a few schools that a post bacc is "recommended" so I was wondering if doing an entire post bacc increases chances of getting into schools.

SLPsara- Have you looked into U of F? I am unsure of which school to go through. They are both very similar in price and length. Both online also. Also I believe its $299 per unit at USU. If you scroll all the way down to the last page of that link, you can find the online tuition rate. I just applied for USU yesterday(non-degree seeking program) and got accepted today. I am now able to register for classes. Are you planning on taking any courses for this summer quarter? I need a partner!

Oh my gosh I want a partner too but I'm waiting until fall because I'm going to the Philippines for three weeks in June! I already have the intro to linguistics class or whatever as well. How many classes are you planning on taking at a time?

Okay! Lets be partners! I already signed up for two classes over summer, but I'm kinda nervous because I'm currently still taking 18 units at UCD and my quarter doesn't end until June so there will be some overlap with USU and my classes at UCD. I registered for COMD2500(phonetics) and COMD 5100(Language science). Lets take classes together in the fall!

I completed UF's program. It was $298 per credit hour regardless of residency. You want to take your time. I do not recommend full time working 30-40 hrs a week. You need close to a 4.0 in your pre-reqs to even stand a chance at getting into grad school. The classes are challenging. Please don't do a full load, take two years. You'll regret it other wise, and there's no rush. ;) Edited by bettercallsaul

There is a special tuition rate for UF's program. It is higher than regular in-state tuition but way lower than out-of-state.

See my other post. In your case, I do not recommend going full time while working. You also have the GRE to prep for and applications due January 15 or February 1. It's a lot of pressure for 1 year, and really there's no rush.

Also the good thing about UF is that it's all asynchronous. You don't have to be in attendance ever. Everything is recorded for you to watch at your convenience, even the live chats.
