Hi everyone! Winding down with the fall 2015 application process. I'm wondering if anyone has heard back from Jacksonville University. I applied for the rolling admissions (May 15th) deadline. I am aware that decisions wont be made until June 15th but I noticed an acceptance already.

Any information about the program would be greatly appreciated!

Is this school considered to be competitive or less competitive? I've looked into their SLP masters program a bit (although I won't be applying until Spring 2016) and realize that they are a newer program. On EdFind their GPA acceptance rate is low but I wasn't sure if maybe they just haven't updated it in a while. Thanks for the help!

IMO I think the program started off less competitive and I think it got competitive this year and will continue to become competitive. JU is a new program so people are skeptical of new programs because of accreditation also you have to pay $500 to hold your seat in the grad program and you have to pay it in 2 weeks. I was told that the director does not look at GRE/GPA but I'm not really sure how true that it. I hope this helps. P.S. decisions will be sent out June 1 not June 15th.

Admissions profile of their first class (info from their open house in January):

Avg GPA: 3.27

  • Avg GPA for CSD majors: 3.49
  • "" for non majors: 3.15
  • Avg GPA for Pre-reqs: 3.80

Avg GRE scores:

  • Verbal: 149
  • Quant: 146
  • Writing 3.5

37% of applicants were CSD majors

27% had experience in a SLP related field

Received 146 applications last year and admitted 30 (20.5%)

The director emphasized that they really read every part of the application. At the open house (in January) they said they had already far surpassed the number of applications received the previous year. A good portion of the professor left the University of Florida to start JUs program.

So there are still people who have not heard? They will notify people at different times?

I'm assuming people have not heard yet because there were two different deadlines and people applied at different times...

I haven't heard anything but then again I was waitlisted

When did you find out you were waitlisted/ when did you apply?

I applied for the March 1st deadline and I heard back March 13 that I was on the waitlist. They will send out final decision June 15th but I was told it could be earlier (around June 1st)

@Timberlake have you heard back, I know you applied to Jacksonville also

I was waitlisted during the first round.

My question is how can they waitlist people if the program isn't even full? Before applying for the May 15th deadline, I reached out to the director and she assured me they are still trying to fill spots?

I wondered the same thing, I know some people posted in other posts who got accepted and decided not to go with Jacksonville because they really didn't know much about it. Also they only accept 20 people the first round and 10 the next and the people that are waitlisted from the first time goes into the 2nd round of applicants.

Right this doesn't seem to make any sense?

Is anyone STILL waiting to hear from Jacksonville?? I am really getting antsy/nervous. Although I realize they have a late deadline. Any info from people who applied and heard back or anyone who hasn't heard back like me would be great!

I am still waiting and also very anxious. I know someone who got in this week. My application wasn't complete until the beginning of May, and my status didn't say it was under review until last week. So I am hoping this just means they are going in order of when people submitted. Fingers crossed!

Mine was submitted May 4th, but my last recommender didnt send her letter until the 13th, two days before the due date.

Do you know when your friend submitted everything?

Yes, mine was submitted April 29 I think, but all my recs and transcript didn't get in until May 4. I'm not sure, but I believe it was way before the May deadline. Let's hope we haven't heard yet because they just haven't gotten to us yet!

I hope they do let us know by Monday. They're my last hope for this season and I want to plan asap for other alternatives.

Nope! I haven't heard anything-which makes me nervous:/. I had a 3.6 gpa in undergrad, 4.0 post-bac/prerequisites, not great gre scores ( both scores are in the 140s), and I have about 100 hours of shadowing/observation hours. I was also in many clubs in college. It makes me nervous that my undergrad degree wasn't in speech. But I have completed the prerequisites to be eligible for grad schools. How about you? Also, there is a facebook page for those who have been accepted to Jacksonville. I've seen a few people be added to the group since late May:/
