TWitt Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 I've had one if my four interviews so far and I met with eight faculty one on one for about 40 minutes each. cephnerd 1
cephnerd Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 Is anybody here going to the UCSB EEMB Grad Student Symposium/Recruitment event next weekend? Have you gotten any information about what else we should prepare for?

I just got one of my schedules and I'm set up for 12 in one day...plus another over Skype with a faculty member who will be away during my recruitment visit. At my visit this week I'm scheduled to meet with 15 faculty in one day... (They're all interviewing in pairs aside from one professor, so only 8 interviews all up.)

I just got one of my schedules and I'm set up for 12 in one day...plus another over Skype with a faculty member who will be away during my recruitment visit. I know the feeling! I was totally surprised when I received my first schedule. I've been invited to 4 interviews, 2 of which I've already attended, another 1 of which I've received my schedule. At the first place I visited, I had 11 thirty minute meetings, but a couple of those were meant to cover the specifics of the grad program (stipend, resources available, etc.). At the 2nd place, I don't actually remember off the top of my head how many interviews I had (I didn't even get my schedule until I arrived), but each meeting was about 30-40 minutes. I want to say I had 6 or 7 interviews on interview day, plus general info sessions with all the prospectives. According to the other schedule I received, I have 9 meetings, including a 1 hr block with my POI. My first interview day was definitely exhausting -- to talk about so much science non-stop while quickly switching between topics, always trying to have something interesting to say or ask, was draining, but I've been told by several people that it was good practice for faculty interviews (which apparently consist of two of those days). I was definitely ready for a beer by the end of the day. My last interview day didn't feel nearly as intense. I think part of it definitely comes down to how busy the faculty is. I would've had more interviews at the 2nd place, but many of the people I would've liked to chat with were already booked, e.g., by the time my POI reached out to them. At the first place, I was the only prospective student on that day. Good luck! :-)
cephnerd Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 Ahh! Batting 100%, so far! Now for the biggie... heading to my top choice tomorrow. *fingers crossed so hard*
mubear Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 Hi all, has anyone else here been accepted into Princeton EEB for Fall 2016 and plans to attend? Just interested to know who will be in the cohort Feel free to PM me.
breadwinner Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 I just got into UMich EEB. Feels good to be accepted. However, I am waiting to see whether I get into the other schools I interviewed at (BU and UT Austin) before I decide. I think Mich has a strong program, so it won't be bad if it's the only place I get in. Has anyone else been accepted there? cephnerd 1
hipstermermaid Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 Official rejection from MIT/WHOI... feels fantastic. /s
Ophiopogon Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 Has anyone applied to Columbia's E3B program? I can't tell by the results forum if interviews are standard/required or just sometimes initiated by POI's.
TWitt Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 Have had four interviews total and just got my first admission offer. Visited U mich. WashU, TAMU and UVa, got an offer from UVa and have not heard back from the other three.
hipstermermaid Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 So if I haven't heard back from Scripps or UCSC EEB, how much should I start freaking out? Has anyone heard anything from there yet?
TWitt Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 I have not heard anything from ucsc eeb since I applied, no idea when they will notify us.
chantalchao Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 (edited) got my offer from Umich on Feb. 24th, and have accepted it. Yay! Have you guys made final decision yet? Edited March 6, 2016 by chantalchao cephnerd 1
cephnerd Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 Congrats, future academics! I accepted an offer from Duke last week. (But am dragging my feet about declining offers elsewhere...)
hipstermermaid Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 Just saw on the results page that someone had been notified by their PI at Scripps Marine Bio that they had been accepted. The post's notes said email notifications would come "later" but I don't know if that is later today, this week, this month...
breadwinner Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 I got accepted into the Richard Gilder school at AMNH. I wanted to go there until I heard so much negativity about a handful of its scientists. I am finding it hard to go through with rejecting them, especially since I still have to hear back from two schools I would like to go to and since I am probably one of only five or so students that got in.
Ryggy Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 Anybody in this thread have any information regarding the Pitt Ecology and Evolution Department? I went on a visitation weekend early February, but have yet to be notified of a decision.
hipstermermaid Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 Scripps has apparently been getting annoyed with inquiries about notifications. They said they'll let everyone know by April 1... fantastic.

With respect to Pitt, I know they have made a few decisions at this point - I just declined their offer, so I hope that spot is now available for somebody else! Good luck! I know someone else that's been accepted as well - it all depends on when your PI makes the decision. Good luck!

Fossey Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 Hi guys!! I am also an EEB applicant, so thought I would write and say hello! Applied to University of Michigan EEB (MS), Penn State (Bio, Phd), and McGill (NEO Bio). Unfortunately got rejected from U of Michigan (top choice) a few weeks ago, but was accepted into McGill and Penn State - and attending McGill! Congrats to those who got into University of Michigan! From what I have heard, the EEB program is FANTASTIC!
breadwinner Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 Anyone going to Boston University? I made a thread in meet and greet that had gotten no traffic. But my new PI only knows of about four people admitted to their EBE program this year so I'm not guaranteed to find any of them on this forum.
hipstermermaid Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 Just got my final rejection... no PhD for me I guess. Feels super great.
