Congrats to the UNC admits! Had a couple of friends applying there. Great digital humanities stuff happening there.

I've also applied to all three of those! Your experiences sound fascinating and I wish you the best of luck.

Dumb question: have you heard anything from Harvard, Brown or BU?

Hello everyone, I wish you the best with your applications!

Here's my situation: I got waitlisted by American Studies at U of Minnesota; and they told me that I was quite high on the waitlist. Actually, I take it a rather positive thing (Should I?). So, if someone accepted into the program but not wanting to participate reads my comment here, could they please give me some hope? :)

I also applied to UMich American Culture, and am still waiting for the decisions. Anyone else in the same boat?

Thank you!

Good luck, @heddatron! Getting waitlisted is still a positive, and of course not everyone who gets in places is going to accept. Is Minnesota your first choice or is Mich? If Mich hasn't responded yet, you may hear from them in the affirmative before you find out from Minnesota that you don't have a spot. Or you may indeed be spoiled for choice and have to decide between two yesses! :)

Hey AMST scholars, I'm curious if any of you have an idea of standard PhD funding in this field. Especially for newer, less established programs. Thanks!

Not a dumb question! I understand the anxiety well myself, lol. No, no news from any of those, and nothing posted on the results board either. I do know there have been some snow days in Boston and Providence in the last couple of weeks, so that might push results back.

Hello, The Interdisciplinarian! (I just can't tag your name and I don't know why). About an hour ago, I received an e-mail saying that I was waitlisted by American Culture at UMich. Of course, UMich is my first choice, and the e-mail seems to me really promising with a lot of details about funding I will receive if admitted, and indicates that my chances are quite high. They said things like "quite likely, distinctly possible" etc. Two waitlists so far. It feels like waiting will never end. :)

Thank you for your support :) Hope to hear great news from everyone! Best of luck!

Don't know if anyone else here applied to Buffalo, but I just got an email response that said they would be letting people know before the weekend -- hope that helps someone!

Just curious if anyone has heard anything from Harvard. (I think they only notify by mail, no?)

Hey y'all I highly recommend emailing the departments' admin assistants to ask when you will be notified. I did it yesterday and received decisions from 3/4! Good luck to everyone! Such a stressful process!

Great advice! I'm tired of waiting, its so nerve wrecking. Can you give any ideas of what to ask/how to approach them with asking about the status of applications?

Argh, really? I'm scared to do that! I worried I was a PITA to the admin assistant when I was applying (one of my LORs was really late and I started to freak out). While she was super nice (and additionally wonderful on my campus visit before that), I don't want to bug her. Eons ago, I was a department secretary, and I know that while I would have been sweet to any students inquiring, not everybody would be. :/

i say just do it. it won't change the outcome if they have already decided. i got one rude response that indicated i had been rejected. one very kind response saying the committee was still reading apps, and would send out decisions soon, and one acceptance! so i think it is worth it if you can't stand the wait!!

Thanks for responding to my question. I called Brown & BU on Wednesday and was told by both departments that no decisions have been made either way; still going through applications. When I asked for a timeframe each said a few weeks still. Harvard is still going through applications as well. I'm hoping we hear soon AND I'm hoping we are in orientation together in March...or April...or May!! This is soooo nerve wracking!! And I'm in the middle writing my masters thesis! Luckily my hair fell out years ago or I'd be in trouble!!! Keeping my fingers crossed for the both of us...and everybody else viewing this thread!

Giving you a heads up. I just got an email from the school of Cultural and Critical Studies that I've been recommended for admission into the Pop Culture MA. Considering it was from the school's chair and not the department head, its possible that they might make PhD decisions sooner rather than later.

I'm happy. Maybe it's a happy hour beer night. :)
