Hi all. I applied for an anthropology PhD program at a university knowing that I was going for sociocultural and that sociocultural only accepts students for odd years. I applied under biocultural, however, because that's what my advisor told me to do initially. Anyway, I was notified that it would be better if I transferred my app to next year's pool because I do not wish to work with any of the biocultural faculty.

I just got an email saying that my app cannot be transferred to the next year for whatever reason, so I'd have to apply next fall.

I'm wondering what you guys think. This school was one of my favorites. I applied to 11 more, but this one was one of my top choices.

I guess it will depend more on any admits that I get, if any.

I mean, why would you apply under biocultural if you didn't actually want to work with any of those profs? There's really nothing you can do but apply next fall if you still want to go there.

I don't know - my advisor said to go with biocultural. I didn't think that it would be a big deal.

Okay, well now you know otherwise. Think about it from the perspective of the professors. Why would I admit LittleCritterB, whose interests don't overlap with mine and who doesn't want to work with me, over someone who actually does want to work with me?
