UNB Fredericton has started sending out invites to experimental and clinical students today it looks like!

Hi I just wanted to share my experience with the application cycle this year. All information and opinions are strictly regarding to my experience, and I recognize that many people here may have had different experiences. Just wanted to share mine so that it may be helpful for anyone interested in the information.

I applied to :

Queen's: Clinical Dev

York: Clinical Dev

OISE: SCCP

Concordia

McGill

I have received an official offer from Queens, and have interviewed with McGill.

Different supervisors at Queen's notified me that they wanted to interview at different times (therefore for Queen's there doesn't seem to be a solid interview day). McGill also doesn't seem to have a specific date for interviews, but let it be up to the supervisor to organize their own.

It isn't rude to reach out to the supervisors to let them know that you put them down as potential supervisors. They are all receptive and will let you know their timeframe.

For OISE, the professor let me know that she will review around Feb-March, and for Concordia, they are also around that time.

If you have questions, I can share my thoughts and opinions, but since this is my first year applying as well I can not say that my views are based on the full experience.

Hey!

That info is super helpful :) did you email your POI at York to inquire about interviews?

Another Canadian child clinical applicant, yay!  We only applied to one school in common.  Mind sharing your OISE/York POIs via PM?  Out of the four profs I considered at York, none of them were taking students this year.

Hi,

It's really great to know there are other individuals interested in children's mental health. I will message my POI information to you, and if you have any questions regarding what I have gone through, please feel free to ask more. I hope everyone's application process on this forum has been going okay.

Hi I was just notified about the York Clinical Open House. I believe invitations have been sent out by individual PIs. Just wanted to let others know as I have been seeing that there are others inquiring about what York has been upto.

I have the feeling I've been completely shut out from this year's applications, and I don't know where I went wrong. :( I'm not sure if it's worth the trouble to go through this for another year.

If you would like to talk about the Canadian School application please let me know, I found that talking about the stresses associated with this process very helpful!

@child_health thanks for the update...I actually emailed the head of the department and she told me my POI wasn't accepting this year. Big bummer :(

@FacelessMage this process is soul crushing...it's hard not to think you did something wrong, but I'm sure that's not the case! It could be that it's just an extremely competitive year for the places you've applied.

One thing that I have experienced. If you are going through applications for Grad schools ever again, I would suggest emailing the profs very early on to inquire about whether they plan to accept students or not for the upcoming year. This year I emailed around September and made changes to my apps accordingly. This isnt seen as rude and can be very helpful

@child_health yes, this is something that I think everyone does. In a lot of cases whether a prof can accept a student changes as time passes, due to a variety of reasons. It's especially up to chance at York I've noticed, as many profs don't say whether they are planning on taking a student, or are unsure.

I did that. Apparently it did nothing.

Received a formal rejection email from UBC but offered a Skype interview from my POI at the University of Regina! The rejection email literally came 5 minutes after my interview offer. It definitely cushioned the disappointment of a rejection haha!

Good luck to everyone & hang in there!

Would the person who got an invite from UOttawa mind sharing your POI via PM?  (My first school's official notification.  Now I can start freaking out for real.)

Hi All. I had a telephone interview with my potential supervisor and a member from the committee today. I am just wondering in regards time lines in regards hearing back. They mentioned the April 15 deadline or earlier if I make first round offers.

I am wondering what all your timeline experiences where in regards getting offers post interview?

Thanks a million and goodluck everyone. It's a nail biter process.

Would appreciate some advice...do you think its appropriate to email a POI and ask something along the lines of "When will successful candidates be notified about an invite to the upcoming open house?" Have any of you done this?

I emailed the graduate secretary, who directed my email to the head of the department! She was really helpful, and told me that although the prof I am interested in working with isn't accepting students this year, I was on a shortlist for if other profs were interested. Who are you applying to?

Did you apply for PhD or MA? Most programs will only accept MA entrance, even if they have the option to apply for PhD

UTSC acceptances going out.. And I have nothing stil :(

Would the posters mind telling me if the POIs are calling or if it's Minnie? And also who the POIs are? Congrats!! :)

I applied for PhD entry, but most of the programs I applied to were combined MA/PhD programs. Maybe next year I'll try applying to the MA, even though it will kill me to write a second MA thesis.
