Songbird222 Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Have people been receiving invitations to interview with faculty members with which they've already communicated? Are interviews typically just standard procedure, or only used when a faculty member wants some one-on-one communication?

It depends on the area...I applied to both psychology and education programs and I know psychology forsure interviews applicants who make their short list. I think for education program it varies across universities because I know some people who have just gotten accepted without interviews. I hope this helps EdNeuroGrl 1

I don't even want to think of the state I'd be in if I'd been checking since I submitted my apps.... I was a regular here under a different account when I last applied to schools in 2012. I totally forgot about it until last week and have been a ball of nerves ever since. I might need to cut down to a "once a day" limit myself...

nm16 Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 I did not get the invitation to interview with HGSE last weekend Is it all over now......................
Escussel Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 I'm new here, and instantly relieved I'm not the only person feeling __________ (fill in the blank with current emotional state). I've applied to HGSE and SGSE. The only thing I have received was financial aid portal set up instructions from HGSE. Nothing from Stanford. Anyone else?
aebh615 Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Hey @nicolemae - sorry I can't help you at all RE: HGSE, but I'm curious which Ed Psych program you to applied to at UVa and if you have heard anything from them?

nm16 Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 hey @aebh615 -- no word from UVa. Based on previous years' data, we're supposed to hear back mid-Feb. I applied to EP-ADS.

morifol Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 (edited) I haven't heard from either Harvard or Stanford at all. Edited January 26, 2016 by morifol
sarkat Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 No word from Harvard or Stanford. I was thinking of writing to Harvard but not sure how wise that would be. morifol 1

In which case, I am screwed huehue?

In which case, I am screwed huehue? I think only MEd applicants at HGSE receive the financial aid email. PhD applicants don't because the PhD apps are reviewed by GSAS and you're fully funded once you're in (so no need to apply for finaid). Hope that helps.

But for PhD applicants, they said that the earliest anyone will hear is mid-February.

I was on another thread where someone stated that their financial aid portal setup information/ID for HGSE went to their Spam folder, the sender is: finaid. I only know from information I read on Stanford's site that the financial aid forms are required for even fully funded programs. @Songbird222 I heard the same thing about mid-February for Stanford PhD notifications.

From past years, it is super common for them to send out admissions acceptances without doing any interviews. *shrug* I applied to DAPS and there are literally maybe 3 entries from the past and it looks like they were straight admits, no interviews. I dunno but it seems like something you shouldn't stress about if you don't get interviews.
morifol Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 I have just had interview with Michigan Ann Arbor. It was extremely informal and relaxed, we just chatted about our research, ideas, thoughts. Is that a good sign or a bad sign?!
marature Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 hi, i'm a master's applicant, and it turns out one of my schools has interviews as well, which seems unusual to me (I thought mostly it was doctoral programs that had interviews). I've had job interviews, and (a long time ago) scholarship interviews, but not a grad school interview before! Any advice on what to expect? thanks!
