mis-dreavus Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 Hi, I submitted an application on the deadline (Feb. 1st) a couple days ago. I looked things over, thought they looked good. I have a statement of purpose I feel is well-written and well, states my purpose well. Today, I decided to check it just to make sure for some reason. I ended up finding a mistake in the first line. I said that I wanted "to pursue an MA in technical communications in your Department" instead of "to pursue an MA in English in your Department." They don't offer a degree in technical communications, just an MA in English. I applied with the plan to concentrate in technical communications, but obviously that won't be my degree. Am I right to be freaking out? Is there any way I can fix this (I'm assuming not)? I can't believe I did that.

And I am quite sure that they don't reject an application for some small typo like this. You also have to choose the degree you want to apply while filling your application form. So just don't worry too much.
SLPgradstudent Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 You could try emailing the department to see if they'll accept a revised version, but that only works sometimes. If they've already started reviewing apps, don't worry about it. Freaking out won't really help you, unfortunately. (If it did, I would have heard back from my schools already!) You'll be alright, just remember to breathe. kbui 1
AmandaN Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 There are very few people who can look back through all of their application materials and not find something to cringe at and your error is very minor. You said yourself that you feel your statement was well written and clearly communicated your intent to focus in technical communications. They will definitely know what you meant and I am very sure that you haven't ruined your chances at an acceptance. I know it is much easier said than done but try to relax and feel good about the fact that you have completed the application process
