thehegeldialectic
So, I've been reading that a lot of people have been given offers, waitlisted, or interviewed at many of the schools I've applied to. I haven't heard anything from anyone. I know that the forum can't account for all of the students, so I'm wondering if these come in waves, or if it's over for the Ph.D. at these schools. bechkafish
Try not to lost hope, @iunoionnis - from what I'm seeing, looking back even just at the survey results for the past few years, "waves" of acceptance or waitlist aren't uncommon. Different schools have different policies, so try not to let yourself get eaten alive by the assumption that no news means bad news. It ain't over til it's over! thehegeldialectic, Dialectica and Naruto
jacbarcan
If you've applied to Stony Brook or Fordham and haven't heard back, I would guess that you wont be accepted based off of some information I've gotten from other applicants that have contacted them. I would also guess that for Berkeley now too, though I'm not as certain since no one has contacted them and received an email that has said "You're rejected" or "All acceptances have already come out"
jacbarcan
Sorry, that wasn't incredibly uplifting. If they are just releasing interviews, I wouldn't worry yet at all. If it's just been a day or two, I also wouldn't worry yet. Just remember that all it takes is one and there are still schools you applied to that haven't released yet. (Also, any specific worries can me messaged to me and I'll try my best to make a clean judgment about them.)

I applied to Fordham, Boston College, Vanderbilt, Stony Brook, Duquesne, Penn State, Villanova, Loyola, and the New School for Social Research. So far, I've heard nothing. I was relatively optimistic before (I think my writing sample to be rather strong), but right now I'm just hoping to get in anywhere. If you haven't gotten an explicit rejection yet, I'd say that you shouldn't give up hope. Don't borrow troubles, as it were. Some schools on your list don't seem to have released anything at all. jacbarcan
You're right. Until there's a rejection letter, you have no idea. I even just got an email today saying something about how Berkeley is having a hard time with funding and getting students to stay across many disciplines. I could be totally wrong about the schools I just said were hopeless. If you want to hear back from them explicitly, you can always email.
