a fragrant plant
One of my top schools emailed me and said they won't be taking any new students for fall 2010. This is after I submitted my application. I realize that this must be a difficult and unforeseeable decision for the department because when I contacted the faculty in the summer they mentioned nothing about admission suspension although they did warn me against the dearth of financial funding. I'm very disappointed about this. It's my top choice and the dept has a lot of good people. I can totally see myself being a happy grad student there. What should I do? jlee306
I'm not sure that there really is anything that you can do, unless you feel that this department is the one you are meant to go into and decide to put off grad school for another year and try again later. But maybe this is working out for the best. I believe that everything happens for a reason and maybe this is the universe's way of telling you that you were not supposed to go to this school. Maybe there is another school that is going to accept you with full funding and you will go further there than you would have anywhere else. I know it may not seem like that right now b/c it is your top school, but maybe in 50 years you will look back and be glad you didn't go there and realize that you wouldn't have gotten as far if you had gone there. JerryLandis
In some ways, it's better than simply being rejected. At least you know now that you won't be attending that university, so you can focus your energies on applying elsewhere and looking forward to attending another place. Obviously I would most rather be admitted to my top choice, but were that not an option, I would rather be prevented from attending by it being an impossibility than by being rejected from a recruiting program. captiv8ed
That really sucks. It sucks that it is where you want to go and now you can't. It also sucks because, although they will refund your money, they can't give you back the time you invested in the application process.

Please let us know what school that is. I haven't submitted any applications yet, and I'd love to save the effort and money if you can give a heads up.
