UVA Info

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone!

I recently got accepted into UVA (!!!) and I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about the program! I liked UVA for its focus on clinical practice, small student-faculty ratio, and the service culture on the campus but I'd love to hear more from anyone who'd like to give an insight! I'm hoping to attend their online info sessions but may not be able to visit the campus in person so any help would be appreciated :)

I visited their campus for undergrad, so that's my experience with it. It's better than having never been there at all, I guess.

Overall it has a very...preppy vibe. Charlottesville is gorgeous, campus is gorgeous (I went to another, smaller school that has the same architectural style: red bricks, white columns, etc.) but at the time I didn't fit in with the school population at all. The master's program may be different than the general populus too.

I don't know where you're from, but if you're not from the south already be prepared for humid, hot, awful summers.

Congrats on hearing back! I haven't heard anything from anyone other than WVU's rejection. ):

@Puffer Fish Thanks for the help! I'm from a pretty preppy southern school so that helps a lot actually to get a feel for the atmosphere! :) If you don't mind me saying, stay positive about grad school acceptances, it just takes one!

Hi straybirds :-)

I have been accepted as well (!!!) I've lived in Cville for 3 years, and I thought I could try to answer some of your questions, particularly bc I have been taking my prereqs there for the past year and have gotten to know a bit about the department.
I love it here. I ~love~ the faculty I've met thus far, the facilities are good, and the campus at large is an amazing mix of great facilities meets birth of the nation... and if you're down with southern prep style, I think you'd feel pretty at home.

I moved here after 7 years in NYC, and even though it is *small* it packs an amazing punch. Beautiful area with lots of places to get outdoors, great music scene, too many restaurants and a fairly healthy night life - especially outside of "the corner" which is the ubiquitous strip across from the university where undergrads go to drink their feelings on weekends ;-)

I've really enjoyed the classes, and have gotten to know the track 2 grad students a bit and have picked their brains about their experience. They are a really nice group - they've been very busy, but super friendly and approachable. This past cohort was a small group, so they've got heavy clinic hours at the moment. Hopefully this cohort will have closer to the 27 they try to aim for! I'm going to start finishing up my observing hours after the break, so I can tell you more once I've met Dr. Hilton (clinic director) et al. Our audiology class did a hands on in the clinic last week, and it's on the smaller side, but like I said, everyone has been very busy!

Will you be track 1 or 2?

Let me know what I can help you with!

PS. In case it's helpful, Dr Loncke is pronounced /lɑŋkə/ ?

Hi friends!

I'm a current out-of-state first year track 1 at UVA and would be happy to answer any questions y'all have - just message me! We're on spring break at the moment, so I have a little extra time to get to know/help out our new class (yay!).

PS. Congrats to everyone accepted so far - we're all so excited you're coming :)
