  1. I used Magoosh and followed their one month study plan. The math videos were very helpful. I studied a ton for a month. I also took 4 free timed practice tests from various sources, kaplan, manhattan prep and ETS powerprep. I think the practice tests are key in helping you know what to expect and to improve test endurance. It is such a loooonnnggg test. As much as it sucked I definitely think all of my intense studying paid off as I was able to raise my combined score at least ten points and did significantly better than I expected. I also wanted to add that unless you are a really strong writer (and maybe even if you are) make sure not to overlook the AWA portion. I searched the internet for tips and wrote quite a few practice essays under simulated test conditions and I am really glad I did. I thought it was really challenging to brainstorm, formulate a strong essay and edit it in 30 minutes. Even with all of my prep that is the one part of my score that I am not happy about but it is adequate and probably would not have been if I had not practiced. And as an edited benefit I think the practice improved my writing skills overall. Best of luck!!
  2. 1. Why did you choose the program you're going to? What really sold it for you? I have decided to attend East Tennessee State University. My gut told me this was the place for me as soon as I received my acceptances. My decision was based on three factors: location, quality of program, and money. I love the mountains and the area of the school. I have only heard good things about the program and really enjoyed my visit. They have a great variety of clinical opportunities. They also have the most potential funding. 2. How many schools did you apply to? I applied to 11 schools. I was accepted to 8. Waitlisted at 2. Rejected at 1.
  3. Yeah its where i will most likely be attending but I don't like the schedule either. I hate getting up early but would still rather have AM classes and have my evenings free
  4. I think so. The director said that almost all classes are in the evening, freeing up the days to complete clinic, coursework and GA/TS work.
  5. I would try checking with someone else, is there another management company you can ask? Maybe try asking someone from the school? If there aren't a lot of listings for August showing up soon then I doubt April is really necessary. I agree about the stress. All of this has been crazy stressful and I am still undecided about where I want to go. I do find it reassuring that on blogs etc I have seen multiple SLP grad students or graduates say that the application and pre grad school time was the most stressful part.
  6. Wow! I am sure every market is different but that seems really early. Are there a lot of listings for August already posted online?
  7. I am still undecided but have been researching places. In one of my top locations I emailed some local rental management companies and asked when the best time would be to look for housing for August and they said late June. This is in a smallish town with a fair number of students. I would suggest emailing some people in the area. Does the program start in summer or fall? May or June may be fine if it's for the fall
  8. Thank you so much for all of the information. I wish I could have attended in person but it was too expensive coming from Florida. I have done a lot of research on Norfolk and it seems like there are some cool neighborhoods close to campus. I am definitely more of a mountain person so Charlottesville was very appealing to me but I didn't apply to UVA because of cost and fear I wouldn't get in. btw I see you also got waitlisted at Appalachian like me. I can't believe that with your amazing stats. I definitely don't understand this process at times but I have determined North Carolina schools must just not like me, haha. If if you don't mind, please message me if you hear from them. It seems like you have a better chance of receiving funding and I don't want to be waiting if they have already awarded everything to other people. Best of luck to you!
  9. Interview went well. I got the impression they offered admission to everyone. I enjoyed learning more about the program. So you went in person? What did you think of the clinic etc? They said they would be sending funding decisions today after all of the interviews so I am hoping for late this afternoon.
  10. Did u have your interview? How did it go? I had mine on Saturday via Skype
  11. Oddly enough the only question that threw me was "how likely are you to choose our program if we offer you admission?" I think it was challenging because I am very uncertain about what program I want to attend. I also think it's important to have a good list of questions to ask them. I asked a couple of interview style questions "what is your favorite thing about working in this program?" It was fun to turn the table on them and it can give good insight into their job satisfaction and program. ;-)
  12. Hello everyone! I never thought I would be in the position to choose between so many grad school options. Even though its exciting it is also extremely overwhelming. Does anyone have any information about the on campus program at University of Northern Colorado? I really like the design of their curriculum but would love to know more. Thanks
  13. Hello everyone! i have been accepted to East Tennessee State University (ETSU) and right now it's my top choice. Anyone else planning to attend in the fall? Does anyone have any information about the program or the Johnson city area? Thanks!
  14. I think the fact that Communication Disorders is housed in a separate building away from campus is nice because parking should be less of an issue. I HATED finding parking when I went to FSU. I live in midtown so can answer questions about that particular area. If you can afford to live in midtown I highly recommend it. Actually my townhouse should be available in August since I am going to have to relocate for grad school, lol. Tallahassee has changed so much for the better in the time that I have lived here. Also I observe at the local rehab center on Wednesdays and its usually the FSU grad students doing most of the therapy. I can reach out to them if you have any particular questions about the program. It has a great reputation locally. All of my friends who have taken their children to receive speech therapy at the clinic have been very happy with it. Feel free to ask any addition questions here or via private message.
  15. I also attended FSU for my first bachelors. I have lived in Tallahassee for 15 years. I love it here and I am sad that I am going to have to leave in 5 months to attend grad school. If you have any questions I would be happy to answer them!
