Hey! Just got my acceptance email from U of Northern Colorado online!! In the email it says we have to be employed in a school district. I do not recall that being a requirement. Anybody have any insight into this?? Thanks!

I am in the same boat! I did not realize that was required/recommend. I currently work as a nanny and I'm meeting with an slp that works with one of the children I care for to see if she'll serve as my clinical supervisor. The acceptance email had a typo, it stated that we needed the supervisor for summer 2016, but I think they meant 2017. Also, if we're doing this in the summer, won't school slps be off work?

I'm going to email UNCO and ask about this. Feel free to message me and we can talk more! I'd love to talk to someone else who is considering the program.

I applied there too and I don't remember it ever saying that anywhere.

I am highly considering accepting their offer. I am fortunate enough to already work under an SLP in a school, but there are still a lot of unanswered questions (at least for me). I also noticed the typo, so I'd really appreciate if you could share what they say! I figured they meant Fall 2016 instead of summer since it is a requirement for the duration of the program and we do not officially start until then. Well, I am going to hope that's the case because we're not working the summer :/

I'm also wondering what would happen in the event your supervisor leaves the site? Do we just use the new SLP or are SOL?

I'm glad I found this forum post since it seems most were accepted to the residential program on here!

I didn't remember that either, but it does state it on the website under the Sample Curriculum link: "All students must maintain employment during each Fall and Spring semester of the program that will permit them to complete 25-60 hours of direct clinical services to children and/or adults with speech-language disorders."  I think sudsnbubbles is right about the typo.  It does say that the cohort begins Fall 2016.

Does anyone else feel like there's so much that a lot of programs don't reveal until you're in?  The program I really want to attend (my alma mater) has provided very little information and said they'll be providing more details in April.  It sure would be nice to have that information before I say, "yes."

I have been feeling the same way! I was trying to compare all the distance programs I applied to in order to determine the best fit, and I noticed there was a lot of missing or glossed over information on their websites. UNC's website was the most informative, in my opinion, but still left me with questions.

Did anyone get clarification on this?

I am currently emailing Nicole (the person who sent out the acceptance emails). She said we just need to have the details of clinical supervision worked out by Summer in anticipation of clinical classes in the Fall. I told her I was a nanny (so not employed in the field), but would be meeting with an SLP this week to discuss clinical supervision. My employment was not a problem. She also put me in contact with the clinic coordinator so I can obtain more information regarding clinical supervision (since I will be setting this up on my own). I asked to get in contact with a current student and she was happy to do it, she just said it would be after Spring break (this week).

I hope this helps, and feel free to message me if you want to share any more info!

One more thing (in case anyone else was curious)

I also asked if the program prepares students more for work with a school age population (I am interested in neuro and aphasia), I was told that it may feel this way in the beginning of the program, but there are numerous courses geared towards work with older populations later in the program. She also mentioned the internship in an adult medical setting during the final semester and said that faculty are extremely accommodating to students who have a special area of interest.

I appreciate the reply! I sent an email as well, as I too work in a related field and will not be able to complete my hours in an employment setting, but just on a volunteer basis. I was told that the program had found that completing clinical hours via volunteer appointments proved problematic for a variety of reasons. It actually gave me the vibe that maybe this was not a possibility? However, I was also referred to the contact for the clinical appointments, so hopefully I was misreading the situation? Anxiously looking forward to hearing from her.

Hey everyone! Glad I am not the only one who seemed to have missed this rather important detail.

I have been in contact with Nicole and she said while being employed in a school is ideal, they have had students complete clinic hours on a volunteer basis. So there is hope!

I also completely agree that we are not given much info before we need to say yes or no. It is frustrating. I am still waiting on a few other online schools (getting annoyed with the waiting!) I feel like I need to get this all figured out now. lol. Anyways, so glad we are all in the same boat!

Once we all decide where we are going, we should set up a Facebook page...get to know each other!

Just filling you all in...I told Nicole I only had availability the first year to do clinicals Monday-Thursday for 2.5 hours/day, and she told me that would work out well! She also said that we do not have any clinical obligations (only coursework) the first Fall semester. I know WKU's full time program requires 3.5hours/day minimum for any time to count towards a practicum, so this contrast was a positive!

Has anyone gotten any more information? They keep telling me we'll be getting more info in the mail but I have not gotten anything yet!

I received my official acceptance letter in the mail yesterday. Included in the envelope are the instructions on what to do next (accept/decline, setting up the e-mail exc.), an orange form which you mail back to the university, your student id# (Bear #), what your email address is, and a couple freebies (decal and magnet).

In terms of information specifically about the program, there isn't anything. It seems like you receive more once you accept your spot and then send your transcripts. I'll try to keep you posted. I sent my acceptance to them today via snail mail.

Hi guys! Congrats on all of your acceptances :)

I have applied to this online program but have not heard anything yet. I was curious if any of you perhaps know anything about when the rest of us may hear? I know they have sent out acceptances, wait lists, and rejections.. Anxiously waiting! Thanks!

I'm honestly not sure. I thought they sent out all notifications already (though I could be very wrong). Have you tried to contact Nicole Reisfeld? She has been very helpful, and she will most likely have the answer to your question. :)

Thanks very much! I will reach out to her

I was also wondering your you that were accepted had your online portal changed? I keep checking mine, but if those who have already been accepted don't even have their portals updated it's prob a waste of time for me to keep checking lol

I still haven't heard a single thing from this program. I'm entirely uncertain as to why that would be, and I'm frustrated on behalf of the other people I know waiting to hear back from them. No change on portal. No email. No nothing.

I've already decided to go to a different program, but it's perplexing, and I'd like to know that they actually looked at my application.

For those of you who haven't heard, I'm so sorry! That is super frustrating. Like a previous poster mentioned, I would definitely suggest reaching out to Nicole, (if you haven't already). She has been quite responsive. I'm happy to provide her contact info in a private message if anyone needs it.

I emailed Nicole as a previous poster suggested and she answered this morning! She did not give me a response about my application, as someone on the results page mentioned. I believe they stated that they emailed the program and were then told they were rejected.

All Nicole told me was that they are sending decisions out in waves since they got an unusually high volume of applications this cycle, and she will be sending decisions out over the next week. So I also suggest emailing her if you'd like! Maybe you will get a different response about your decision. But she was very nice! I emailed around this time yesterday and she answered me at 11:30 this morning (9:30 their time-I'm in NY). Good luck!
