  1. I just want to point out that everyone here has given some really great advice! However, I have to agree with Phonemenon above. I, too, have a friend like yours, who if I didn't know any better, I would think you are talking about her exactly! I went through my undergrad with my best friend who sounds very much like your friend. Similar grades, very low GRE, and very minimal experience. She has her undergrad degree in CSD, however, and has already applied 3 times with no luck. This, again, is already with a background in SLP and the required observations hours by ASHA. She has done some extra observing and works as a teacher's aid, but again, has not yet been accepted anywhere. So, while I would never discourage anyone from trying, I would honestly encourage you to talk to your friend and see if this is what she REALLY wants to do, and why she wants to do it. Because going through a post-bacc program with habits such as hers, as Phonemenon pointed out, may end up being a waste of time. I, myself had a 3.8 CSD GPA and 3.5 overall GPA, with good GREs and strong letters, and it still took me 2 years to be accepted somewhere. I've also heard very many stories of people going into this field and then realizing after a semester or 2 that it's not for them or it's too much work, then dropping out. Which, as someone who has been waiting to do this for YEARS, was always very frustrating for me, as it's not fair for someone to take a seat who doesn't truly want to be there. So overall, I would talk to your friend and have a serious conversation because the process is going to be very long and very expensive.
  2. Hi! Just to give you some piece of mind, I absolutely think it is possible for you to get in! However, be prepared that it may take a little while. I graduated with a major in SLP, with a major GPA of 3.8 and cumulative GPA of 3.5. However, I did transfer schools and did pretty horrible my first year at a community college. That being said, CSDCAS reported my GPA as a 3.1. I applied 3 years before getting in. I applied to 10 schools the first 2 years, then decided to attend a different program as advised by my undergrad professors to show that I could be successful in a graduate program. I did this in a related field and earned a 4.0. My GRE was not very high at all since I am AWFUL at math and was ill BOTH times I took the GRE. My highest scores were 146 V 143 Q and 5.5 both times on writing. However, my third year applying I only applied to 3 schools and I was finally accepted to a great NY school. I was also sure to do plenty of shadowing, worked as a full-time nanny, and did several internships. So, moral of the story is, yes, it is possible, although it may take some extra effort and time! I almost gave up and am so happy I didn't! Good luck!
  3. Is this for the online or on campus program? I applied for full-time online and they said they are still hanging onto my application...
  4. Wondering this as well... I saw notifications for on-campus and part-time distance, but I am waiting to hear from the full-time distance program also!
  5. Has anyone heard from Western Kentucky University yet? In past years there were at least some decisions by now, but not a peep yet this year from what I have seen
  6. Thank you for the advice! I still am in contact with my ComDis professors, so I will probably do as you said and ask them to read it when I am done. Thank you again! And congrats on all your acceptances Jealous!!
  7. Hi guys! I have not yet been accepted for this application cycle, and only applied to 5 schools. I have 3 left to hear from but not feeling very confident since one of them already sent some acceptances, one waitlisted me last year, and the other only accepts a few people for their online program. So I am in the process of looking at schools for the Spring. One of the school's ask for 2 essays; one of which it asks you to explain a challenge or problem you have faced and how you handled it. I am wondering if it is a bad idea to explain the problem/challenge of not being accepted to an SLP program and how I handled it? I am quite aware that the reason I have not been accepted yet (I have applied previously) is because while my SLP GPA is a 3.8, my overall GPA is a 3.4, and my first year of college before I transferred my grades in my GenEd classes were quite low. Advice I got during my undergrad was to take classes in a related graduate program to show I can be successful in graduate school (which I am doing now with a 4.0), and to get some more related experience, which I have also done. I've done internships, substitute teaching, I am in a Deaf/HH graduate program, over 200 hours observing/volunteering with SLPs, and a bunch of other things. I was thinking of explaining how I applied and was not accepted, and what I have done to improve myself, while also explaining why it is that my grades were not great when I started college (I attempted to work 30 hours a week while taking 6 classes a semester). However, I don't know if telling them that I have applied before and wasn't accepted is a bad thing, or if it will perhaps draw more negative attention to my transcript from the college I attended first year. Any advice would be helpful! Thanks!
  8. I emailed Nicole as a previous poster suggested and she answered this morning! She did not give me a response about my application, as someone on the results page mentioned. I believe they stated that they emailed the program and were then told they were rejected. All Nicole told me was that they are sending decisions out in waves since they got an unusually high volume of applications this cycle, and she will be sending decisions out over the next week. So I also suggest emailing her if you'd like! Maybe you will get a different response about your decision. But she was very nice! I emailed around this time yesterday and she answered me at 11:30 this morning (9:30 their time-I'm in NY). Good luck!
  9. Thanks! Guess I'll keep checking haha
  10. I was also wondering your you that were accepted had your online portal changed? I keep checking mine, but if those who have already been accepted don't even have their portals updated it's prob a waste of time for me to keep checking lol
  11. Thanks very much! I will reach out to her
  12. I am in the same position so don't feel bad! I graduated with a 3.4 cumulative GPA and a 3.8 in the major (SLP). My GRE V and Q are quite low but I have taken it twice and only raised them 2 points each. My writing is a 5.5 for both times though. I applied twice to 10 schools. Got rejected by all the first year and waitlisted at 1 last year. This Fall I started a masters in a related field with a 4.0 and finally got an interview to the one school I applied to that requires them. However, it is not looking good since many people have already heard back. I only applied to 5 schools this year since I am already in a masters program so I figured if I don't get in now I will just complete my current program then try again. i have TONS of experience and have done over 200 hours observing/volunteering, internships, nanny experience, ASL, work in school districts, etc. So it is discouraging that I cannot seem to score higher on my GRE and also that schools focus so much on my lower grades I received in undergrad GenEd classes But I also am not giving up! I joked that I got rejected my first year, waitlisted last year, got an interview this year, and maybe NEXT year will be my year I just wish as far as interviews go they would really review applications as a WHOLE and then offer interviews to just make sure you're really passionate about the field and have the personality to match their program. Otherwise going BACK over your application then saying "actually no thanks" is such a let down. But who knows! You being on 7 waitlists seems like good odds! So my advice is not to give up. I have seen people apply 5 times before getting in. I may be one of those people haha. Good luck!!
  13. Hi guys! Congrats on all of your acceptances I have applied to this online program but have not heard anything yet. I was curious if any of you perhaps know anything about when the rest of us may hear? I know they have sent out acceptances, wait lists, and rejections.. Anxiously waiting! Thanks!
  14. Also I apologize for how many times I said "interview" lmao
  15. Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone had any input on how admissions goes about reviewing your application after you have interviewed? At my interview I was told there is a "score" that they create for your application, and if you score above a certain number you are offered an interview. I know that they go back afterwards and review your application again and discuss the interview, but does anyone know how they review you after your interview? Is there a specific order they do them in based off of your original "score" or perhaps when you submitted your application? I ask because where I interviewed I know some people have already been accepted that interviewed before and after me, but I have been in contact with the person I had my interview with and she assured me my application has not yet been reviewed. So I am trying to figure out why that might be? If anyone has any input please let me know! I'm thinking it's a bad sign, but trying to hang onto a tiny bit of hope lol. Thanks!
  16. Basically all of my schools Touro, LIU Post (interviewed), Western Kentucky University (online), University of Northern Colorado (online), and University of Wyoming (online)
  17. I see. I'm sorry! What was the writing sample about? sometimes your best writing can be done on the spot! I'm sure you'll be fine
  18. If you don't mind me asking, why do you say you don't feel confident about your chances? The writing sample?
  19. I'm getting anxious waiting to hear back, and wondering if some of you will share about your interview experience? Was there a certain vibe you got from the interviewer that maybe you were a good match/accepted? I ask because there were certain things she said to me that made it kind of sound like I would be accepted, but not sure if these were just generic things that everyone who interviewed was told! I know we all basically got the same questions, but just wondering what everyone's overall feel was at the end? Thanks!
  20. Hi! Since you currently attend WKU I was wondering if you have any idea when they will be sending decisions? Thanks!
  21. Does anyone have any info on LIU Post or Touro? Thanks!
  22. Can I ask where you heard this info from? I am anxiously waiting to hear from them! Thanks!
  23. Ah ok thanks! Same! March 18th seems so far away and I was told since it's a Friday they may not even notify until the following week... UGH!
