torvicnz Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 (edited) Hi there! Yes, but still waiting for funding. Turns out, getting into Cambridge is challenging, but getting funding is really tough Edited March 24, 2016 by torvicnz
Feanor Posted March 24, 2016 Author Posted March 24, 2016 Tell me about it... I'm also on the same boat, quite complicated for overseas students.
torvicnz Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 Yes it is...And it doesn't align well with USA PhD program deadlines. I don't think I'll secure funding before the national program deadline of April 15th for the US, which doesn't help the decision process!
Feanor Posted April 1, 2016 Author Posted April 1, 2016 As a bonus, they "just" asked for a top-half distinction for the maths PhD...

Does this mean that you need that finish in Part III, or in your current program? Because asking for a top-half distinction (which I assume means finishing in the top half of those receiving distinction) in Part III is really quite a request, especially when couched as "oh yeah, just get a top-half distinction in Part III, that's all."
Feanor Posted April 20, 2016 Author Posted April 20, 2016 Yes! I'm currently a Part III student, so yeah, they actually mean I need to be in the top-half of the list of people ~who got distinctions~. Who's to say Cambridge doesn't have a heart?
cwr Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 Wow! That's incredible. Best of luck to you! I'm doing Part III next year, but thankfully my spot in a (physics) Ph.D. program isn't contingent upon my marks at Cambridge.
