So, I heard that Western Michigan currently has all of their funded offers out, but they are potentially looking to make a couple unfunded ones as well. When I got my MA at WMU there were a few unfunded grad students in my class, but by our second year they had all moved into funded spots...I'm not saying that that'll happen this time, but it definitely could. But, even if it didn't the cost of living in Kalamazoo is quite low and they're doing some cool philosophy. Just thought I'd pass the word on in case any of you were still looking for a school...I definitely enjoyed my time there.

@Atropos I received one of those   unfunded offers. One of my POIs contacted me to let me know that I'd been accepted, but that I had also been placed into the top grouping for funding on the waitlist, should any of their initial offers decline. He was extremely helpful and had a lot of positive things to say about my application, so they've made a good impression on me. I don't know if I can bring myself to accept an unfunded offer, but your post will certainly help me in making a decision. Thanks!

I visited WMU when I was looking at MA programs. People seemed really nice. Some might not be too into elaborate email correspondence.

WMU is my top choice and I'm still waitlisted for funding. As of yesterday they still had 3 funded offers that haven't been accepted. Keeping my fingers crossed that one of them finds its way down to me. :unsure:

I was told yesterday that there were 4 unclaimed funded offers. I guess our chances are getting slimmer ?

@ScroopHaha it dropped from 4 to 3 within an hour of Allhoff answering my response to the update. This is the type of thing that makes me anxious about responding to emails.

@Thorge ugh. This wait is killing me. I'm afraid I'm not going to hear about any movement until Friday afternoon ?

@Thorge how does that work

Apparently they split their remaining assistantships into multiple smaller offers to try and entice more people, and they are down to a sum of money that's approximately half of one regular funding package.

I'm a current MA student at WMU; PM with questions if you want to know about the experience of a student.

That said, the email went out via the Google Group "PhilUpdates"

Dear all,

We’re about done with admissions at WMU, but might have 2-3 spots still available for our fall class.  At this stage, they’d be unfunded spots, but we have some resources available to offset costs (e.g., scholarships, graderships, etc.); furthermore, we’ve been pretty successful moving students into funding by their second years.

In any case, if you have any students that are still looking for next year, please let me know—or ask them to get in touch.  We can go past April 15 if necessary, but hope to get it sorted pretty quickly.

Many thanks,
Fritz

As I understand it, there is still some funding available here. At this stage in the game, I highly recommend contacting Dr. Allhoff directly. He could give you more info. (this goes for anyone interested)
