Online Master Degree ( Math or Stat)

Does anyone take online master degree program in math or stat? I have some places in my mind:

1. West Florida U----(Math) 30 credits (can apply for out-state tuition wavier) in Math, need to be online in in specified time in all classes.

2. NCSU---->(Stat) 30 credits,  $12,224.10 for In-state tuition and maybe $24,000  for Out-State, need to be online in specified time in some classes.

3. Penn U,----> (Stat) 30 creidits, $80 for credit both  In- state and Out- State.

4. Colorado State U.--(Applied Stat) , 31 credits, can complete in one year, but there are many courses to take since each of them is 1-2 credits.

5. Texas A&M ----(Stat) 36  hour non-thesis degree , outstate tuition fee ~$2780.00 for 3 credit semester., maybe too expensive.

6. University of Washington---> The course is too advance program for me.

 

Also, Would like to know chances for receive financial aid or scholarship in these programs? Right now, I work as a part time tutor. I don't have employer to support for this degree.

Why don't you email the admissions and ask your questions? I considered NC State but I don't want online anything. Do you work right now? I don't want online because I want to meet people through school and online doesn't exactly facilitate that happening.

I work right now. I can not move to study in the campus. I agree with your point. Because of my limitation, I need to find online classes. Actually I already contacted some of those universities and had a few ideas. Just hope to have  other views from here to share with me. Thanks for you comments.

oh okay. I live near NC State but I like UNC more. I think I would apply to UNC MS in Statistics if anything but I don't have enough math background right now. I'm not really working and wanted to use a master's degree to get a good job. How much math have you taken? I just registered for linear algebra at UNC summer school. UNC's statistics deadline is April 12 but I don't think I can make it. I don't want to wait another year. I'll probably just take the one acceptance I have, which coincidentally was not a statistics program. I'm also thinking of sending out more apps for schools with later deadlines. The one program I did apply to at UNC was health informatics.

I already got a bachelor degree in math and another bachelor degree in stat but from other countries. I want to have a master degree from U.S. universities. I want to get a better job ,probably same  reason as yours. I also plan to apply PhD after I get master degree. Many people talk about how good the master in Stat from NC state. I live in Virginia, it's quite expensive to pay Out-state tuition fee.

yeah out-of-state is more expensive but couldn't you just take loans or do you not want to do that?

Why do you say that? As mentioned above, I don't want online programs because I won't make friends that way but I'm curious why you say that.

Could you not consider statistics at UVA? I was looking there too. The deadline already passed and I think my quant GRE score sucks for statistics programs at least. And wow like everyone who applies to stat programs seems to already have math background! I have BS in psychology. Currently have only taken through multivariable calculus and most programs preferred linear algebra at minimum  they also want advanced calculus or probability a lot of the time! I completely understand why you don't want to pay OOS tuition. I live right by UNC, Duke, and NC State so I'm lucky to get in-state tuition rates at UNC and State.

You know what! those math courses you mentioned are the courses I want to take also because they are requirements for PhD applicant, even I already had degree in math but from other country. I contacted a program coordinator of online master degree, they are ok with math classes I already took. Where do you take  calculus and linear algebra?   UVA takes about  2 hours driving from  where I live, so If  I study there I have to find some places to stay. I don't want to do that.  Yes, UVA is a good one. I prefer UVA to Virginia Tech.

I live close to UNC so I took multivariable calculus there. UNC has summer school too. I will be taking linear algebra there. I hope it helps me in some way no matter what I decide to do. Lol my mom is an alum of Virginia Tech. I was accepted to VT for undergrad but what do you know I ended up at UNC. I think there are online classes you can take! I can text an old friend maybe. He had to take multivariable for his major. He took online but I don't know where. I want to say it was Penn maybe not too sure. Online classes are out there you just have to look for it. If you have bachelor in math already, then why haven't you taken linear algebra or multivariable? I thought those were both required for math majors.

As I said I took them from other country. I just planed to look at them again, because some U.S. universities do not recognized degrees/classes from other countries.

Depends where you get the said online degree from. 

I recently completed College Unbound, and I have to say I was rather surprised how progressive some online programs have become. There's always some online programs that will looked at badly (University of Phoenix, I'm looking at you), but there are quite a few interesting options.

@pen2009, I know it might not be directly relevant to your current pursuits, but you should consider reading the book. At the very least it might bolster you commitment to attend an online program, as you have no other option. That could never hurt, right?

Totally agree with you . Thank you. Many online classes I mentioned are taught the same topics and like this one "This is a synchronous course delivery program, meaning that all courses offered through the master's in mathematical sciences program are taught in tandem with face-to-face courses using Collaborate, an online training and collaboration tool. Students are required to attend live lectures and two-way audio and video enables live interaction between the instructor and online students."

I'm American. Didn't know that American universities looked at classes that way. I didn't know so many international people wanted to come to school in America.

I liked it a lot.  I think it should be required reading for high school seniors, and I think it would have altered my career path if the options that now exist existed when I graduated high school.

At the very least, anyone interested in eventually working in academia should read it because he argues what the future of higher education will look like, and does so quite well, I think.

cool I bought it for Kindle app. there are a lot of things I wish I knew. Like I probably wouldn't have studied psychology. I believe that every time you change your career interests, it creates more obstacles for yourself. And at UNC, I wish I would have been in the B school. I perceive those students had more of an advantage than kids who weren't in the B school.

Neither do I.  One thing I just discovered now is that education in U.S. is so much expensive. I have never thought about that. Cannot believe this!  How American can afford to study or to have a higher education given that most of educational institutions charge you huge of money. Sorry I am new to America Society. For International students, they can come here mostly because they get scholarship from their government and their parents are rich. Unfortunately, I am not one of those groups.

@pen2009, @rack_attack124, My personal experience...I am from Canada, but I have taken some Stat courses online from Colorado State. I can assure you, quality of online studies is no less than on campus. Even harder maybe, as online students don't get all the help that an on campus student can.

Regarding prestige, it really doesn't matter as your degree does not state what mode of delivery was used.
