qq92 Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 I am an international student who was recently accepted into the PhD program for materials science and engineering at UCLA. I was told I would have to support myself for my first year. However, they added that I could apply for TA positions in my second year. What are the chances of me getting those TA positions and funding for next few years at UCLA?
fuzzylogician Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 I would strongly encourage you to get in touch with current international students at this program and ask them this question, as well as your intended advisor, if you have one. The chances that those few people who this question is really aimed at read this forum aren't too high, and you don't want to rely on our speculations. You might also ask the department's admin person if they know rough numbers for how these positions have been distributed in the past few years. The bottom line is that no one can make you and promises and going to an unfunded program is a risk.
