radkat Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 I'm planning on applying to Masters in Social Work programs as a career change from software engineering (and a BS in Physics). I took about 5 classes in Brain and Cognitive Sciences in undergrad, and since then I have some work/volunteer experience in social work/counseling. Do you think it would be helpful for my application to take the psychology subject GRE? I eventually want to become a LCSW so I do want to learn more about the counseling and psychology side of social work. Thanks for your help!
HunterGirl Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 I think it isn't so needed, unless you have weak grades. Do you have enough liberal art credits? That might be more crucial then the GRE.
RCtheSS Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 I don't think it would be worth the effort. It isn't a requirement, and a number of MSW programs don't even require the general GRE exam on their application. I would focus on writing strong application essays instead.
