Importance of "POI" for MA Program?

I know having a "POI" is imperative when it comes to selecting a Ph.D. program, but how important is faculty fit for an MA program? Would it be unwise to choose a school that seems to have a great program but whose faculty's focus doesn't really align with your primary interests? Would this make it difficult to write a thesis?

Hey I'm starting my MA this fall so I don't have experience just yet. I think its important but I don't think its the only thing that matters. I think a supportive faculty is the number one key. Of course I haven't written a thesis so take my opinion with a grain of salt. As long as its in the same realm of what you want to study I don't think you have to perfectly fit.

Some of this depends on the field. Having a POI whose interests are related to yours can help you write a stronger thesis, open up additional research opportunities, and give you the chance to TA courses related to your interests.
