jlee306 Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 Hello. For some reason I think this question has been asked before but I cannot find it anywhere. So sorry if it was asked before. Anyways, I am wondering if it is ok to send in a CV to a program even if they didn't ask for one? In this school's application, the stuff they ask for is very little and I feel like there is no way to tell each applicant apart b/c we pretty much just provide them with basic info such as: previous schools attended, demographic info, college activities one participated in, etc. Even what they are asking for in the personal statement doesn't really allow the admin committee to get to know the applicant. So should I send a CV even if they don't ask for one? Thank you!
rainy_day Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 I'm planning on sending my CV to all of my schools, whether they ask for it or not. I figure it is only a two page document, and easy enough to ignore if that is their preference.

drcogsci Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 I sent a CV in to every place I applied to, but I always asked an administrator or faculty member if it was okay first, and tried (a little) to justify why I wanted to. Can't hurt to ask.
Lantern Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 Some of my schools asked for them, and if they didn't I asked if I could send one. I've been out of college for 11 years, and feel that my CV/resume says a lot more about me than my GPA. If they don't want it, I would imagine they will tell you not to bother, but if they really want to get a sense of who you are, it can only help.
fuzzylogician Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 I sent it to all the schools I applied to unless they explicitly said not to send anything unsolicited.
johndiligent Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 I sent it to all the schools I applied to unless they explicitly said not to send anything unsolicited. This.
jlee306 Posted December 30, 2009 Author Posted December 30, 2009 Thank you to all that replied! I am going to send mine!
joro Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 I only sent it if it was required. One of my applications stated that I shouldn't send a CV if it wasn't asked and doing so would only look bad or slow down my application process.
solairne Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 I sent a CV to each of my 4 schools, and none of the asked for one. It's a really good way to put a lot of extra information out there, without putting it in your SOP.
jlee306 Posted January 1, 2010 Author Posted January 1, 2010 I sent a CV to each of my 4 schools, and none of the asked for one. It's a really good way to put a lot of extra information out there, without putting it in your SOP. I thought so too.
