Hi All,

New user here.

I, like many, am torn between two programs. My undergrad is from a small private school in Texas. I have a journalism and poli sci degree and a minor in French. Eventually, I want to be a war correspondent for a network. Here is my issue:

I have been accepted to the Elliot School of Govt at GW for a masters in international affairs

With a substantial fellowship

Could live for free (with relatives)

Wonderful staff and they have actively recruited me

or

Get a ms in journalism from columbia

probably no money

no where to live

If anyone as any advice as to what they are looking for from correspondents, what school you like, or what you think please let me know. Thanks

Agree with the previous post. Unless you are IN LOVE WITH NEW YORK. There is so much going on in DC, unbelievable, and GW is a fantastic school. Ivy League is a sports conference at the undergraduate level. Northwestern, Chicago, WashU/WUSTL, Emory, Rice, MIT, Stanford, Duke, Johns Hopkins/JHU, Vanderbilt and Georgetown all offer similar educational experiences as those in the ivy league. By many, these are also considered the "new ivies" in Academia.

At GW you are two blocks from the White House. Figure it out.

if you want to be a correspondent, you want to be unencumbered by debt, especially if you decide to string or freelance at any point during your career. debt will make it more difficult for you to take risks.

if you can stomach the debt, go to columbia, but it will place some limits on your future options.
