apslp Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 Hi everyone. I emailed my professors from undergrad a week ago, requesting letters of recommendation for graduate school. Crickets, no response. I am planning to follow up later this week or early next week, but I am super anxious about this. Have any of you been in this situation before? Unfortunately, it is more difficult for me to go back to my university because I live over 3 hours away and would need to put in the time from work, which I can't do unless I can - with certainty - have an appointment with my professors. I had even expressed in my emails that I would be happy to schedule a meeting with them to discuss my letters. I'm not sure what to do aside from follow-up, but beyond that, I'm very worried. :/
imunster Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 I had a similar experience this month but it was a letter from my former supervisor at work. I had emailed her about potentially writing me one but didn't stick in any of the concrete details (date they would be due and where they need to be sent, etc). Waited 2 weeks before I sent a follow up email along the lines of.. "Hey i sent you an email about getting letters from you. i know you are super busy and I would be very grateful if you would be willing to do this for me. I can send you a list of the schools and any supplemental information you would need". She responded almost immediately. Sometimes they just get caught up and read the email forgetting to actually respond. A follow up email would definitely be your first step and it would voice "hey this guy/gal is really serious about getting a letter!" If he still doesn't respond then maybe progress to a more invasive approach.. calling his office maybe?
speechfan222 Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 I almost had to call one of my professors as I was waiting on their letter of rec to complete my application. Fortunately, I received it and submitted my application. I agree with imunster above. I would call their office and leave a voicemail if needed. My professors are very good about responding to emails. You could also send them an email, too. I noticed you're applying to SLP programs. I am too! Which schools did you choose and are you doing the traditional program or online?
apslp Posted October 5, 2016 Author Posted October 5, 2016 Thank you! It has been just over a week since I sent my initial emails, so I am planning to give them until the weekend and follow-up next Monday. Sigh. lol. I am hoping for a traditional program and I am applying everywhere in Texas. How about you?
