cherry12055 Posted October 14, 2016 Posted October 14, 2016 I just got my Psych GRE score- got a 710 which is the 79th percentile. Is this score worth reporting if the school doesn't ask for it or it's optional? I've read that anything above a 700 is good but the percentile seems rather low to me so I'm not sure. (Also, I was not a psych major). Thanks!
St0chastic Posted October 14, 2016 Posted October 14, 2016 This is an impossible question to answer with any kind of certainty. The truth is we don't have good data on how much of a factor the Psych GRE is in admissions decisions and what is considered to be a good score. All we know are average scores of accepted students that schools report. Normally I would say don't submit your score unless it is close to or higher than the average reported by a school, but since you aren't a psych major a slightly lower score might still be viewed favorably. 79% isn't great for a psych major but is pretty impressive for a non-psych major in my opinion. So I am leaning towards reporting it.
sackofcrap Posted October 15, 2016 Posted October 15, 2016 If it's not mentioned on the school's website at all, I wouldn't send it because they probably don't want it. If it says on the website that it's optional, then I would definitely send it because I think it will be taken into account and your score is not a bad score. What school are you applying to?
buttercup8d Posted October 17, 2016 Posted October 17, 2016 I didn't do well on my Psych GRE either. The test is all rote memorization, and I decided it wasn't worth re-taking for $200. It's been a few years since I took Intro Psych 101. Almost all schools told me it isn't important, and I ended up not even sending it to most schools.
didion10 Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 I had read/heard anything less than 85th percentile is not worth sending unless its required. Most schools don't care, honestly. Good luck
psychologue Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 I would only send it if you have something to make up for like a low GPA. Otherwise I don't think it would hurt you, but you never know - the percentile seems low to me.
