Neurophilic Posted October 28, 2016 Posted October 28, 2016 Does anyone recommend any study materials for the psychology GRE? There are so many options, I'd love some opinions!
FacelessMage Posted October 28, 2016 Posted October 28, 2016 I just used the Kaplan book, supplemented with Google. I scored above the 90th percentile after studying for around 2.5 weeks (and that's after I've been out of undergrad for 4 years). There's a lot more I/O psych questions on the test than when I previously took in 2010, so maybe some study material on that would be helpful.
St0chastic Posted October 28, 2016 Posted October 28, 2016 1) Comprehensive intro psych textbook 2) Barron's or Kaplan's Psych GRE review books 3) AP Psychology review booklets 4) Wikipedia + Google searches Focus especially on areas you are less knowledgeable about (for me that was I/O and developmental psych).
PsycUndergrad Posted October 28, 2016 Posted October 28, 2016 I used the Princeton Review book, and it helped me do very well on the exam. I would recommend it if you've taken a lot of psych classes and mainly want a refresher for the major topics. If you are unfamiliar with some of the areas or have been out of school for awhile, I wouldn't recommend it as it isn't very long and definitely isn't detailed enough if you haven't studied a topic before.
js.psych Posted November 1, 2016 Posted November 1, 2016 I used the Princeton book and although I haven't gotten my scores back yet (I just took the exam on Saturday), I don't think I'd recommend it. There were quite a few typos in the book and I thought it could have been organized better. I also agree with the above poster that the Princeton book is pretty bare-bones, so it's definitely not a thorough review. I used it mainly to review topics I wasn't as familiar with and supplemented that with my psych100 textbook as well as some basic google searches. The physiological/bio portion of the exam was more detailed than I expected, and definitely more detailed than the Princeton book prepared me for.
