kumar
Hi there, I am sure u have not heard this one before. I had applied to UMass Amherst and as I was checking my application status on March 6th, the website said " file at foreign students office for Visa compliance". I though that meant an admit and was thinking of packing my bags. About a day later the website said" wait listed" and I just wanted to die. From then onwards, I haven't heard anything from them. I really dunno what exactly happened over there and i still ain't sure as to when they are gonna make a decision.
jetlag
wow, that's strange. but it's possible that you're admitted and waitlisted for funding, maybe that's what they meant to say. good luck!
chicdeac
Well it sounds like you assumed you were admitted and then found out that you were waitlisted, which is actually quite different from being admittedand then waitlisted....
kumar
Well, I hardly assumed anything. This was what was written on the website on 6th march "File currently at the foreign students office : Congratulations, your file has received favorable review from the graduate department and is currently at the foreign students office for visa compliance. Check back within 7 days for the status to change to ADMITTED. " and after a day "Wait list : The program to which you have applied has asked the Graduate Admissions Office to place your name on the program's waiting list. If admissions slots open up, one or more of the applicants on the wait list may be offered admission. Contact the graduate program for more information." I just told you as it was in the website. I'm not sure how the graduate program is structured at the school you applied, but I think you have a legitimate reason to file a complaint regarding this issue. Whoever made this mistake should bear some responsibility. I would contact the department and explain the situation (including the above quotes) and express your dissatisfaction. Minnesotan
Wow. For once, I think I would agree with someone if they sent in an appeal. That's just not right!
kumar
Unfortunately since I am neither a US citizen nor a permenant resident, It would be impossible for me to take any sort of action other than send an extremely disapproving email (which I have already done). I just hope and pray that such an incident is not repeated with me or with any hopeful applicant in the years to come.
