Hi, I am applying for an NSERC and filling out the Canadian Common CV. For past funding, I research an NSERC in the past (as an undergraduate student research award). I am adding it, but not sure how to put my supervisor on the list. I feel he should be included, but not sure what to put him as from this list as supervisor isn't listed (and all these terms seem vague and I cannot find a definition sheet).

I recently had to fill out the CCV as well for Canadian postdoc awards from NSERC. I did not include my supervisor for the USRA because these awards are not tied to the supervisor in any way. So, I listed myself as Principal Applicant for the NSERC USRA, NSERC CGS-M and NSERC CGS-D. I did list my supervisor as the Principal Investigator for a NASA grant I applied to (the grant itself also lists my supervisor as the PI). 

If you want to include your supervisor, then the only correct choice for the USRA is "Principal Investigator".

To clarify, the reason why I did not include my supervisor in the USRA, CGS-M and CGS-D was that these are really more like scholarships/fellowships than actual grants. When it's an actual grant, the application needs to go through a lot more approval steps at the institution level such as the office of sponsored research etc. and it gets an account number and your salary would come out of that etc. Remember that the CCV is meant to take entries for everyone, from students like us to full professors with multiple grants that they manage etc. So a lot of the options don't really apply to us

Thanks TakeruK, that is super helpful! I have another question I was wondering if you can answer, where can I put TAing or grading on the CV. Would TAing be under teaching a course if I just helped out with labs? Or would that be work experience?

Sorry, one other question! It asks if you had a supervisor or mentor during your degree. I had a professor supervise my research over my degree, but this was on semester. Should he be put? Even though this line feels like it is meant for a grad student.

I put this under employment. After reading through both the employment section options and the Teaching options, I decided that I would only put something under Teaching if I was the instructor of record for a course, not just a TA.

I think you could and should put the professor's name along with your degree if your degree involved thesis work and this professor was the supervisor for your thesis research. If you worked for a professor for a particular research project (but it wasn't part of your degree's thesis requirement), I would put this professor as supervisor for the entry in the employment section.
