digits2006 Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 So is anyone applying to any Criminology programs? I am applying to three masters programs in the criminology area. Is anyone else out there? There isn't really a criminology section of the board so I thought I would make a topic here! ( also, anyone applying to any legal psychology schools?)
arna Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 Really, No one at all? I am... I applied to three doctoral criminal justice/criminology programs and one master's program, as well as one sociology doctoral program. Kinda worried about being rejected by all the doctoral programs because I don't have a master's.
arna Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 I applied to the master's program at the University of New Haven and the doctoral programs at John Jay, SUNY-Albany, and University of Maryland-College Park. If I am rejected or don't hear back from anyone by March I'll start applying to programs with later dates. Which crim programs did you apply to?
digits2006 Posted January 29, 2010 Author Posted January 29, 2010 I applied to three masters programs for criminal justice: USF, FSU, and UF ( criminology, law, and society). I wish I was a good enough candidate for John Jay! That is an awesome school!
arna Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 John Jay is my dream school...I'll be so upset if I don't get accepted. But if they reject my application I can still apply to the master's program right? I hope so... My mentor got her PhD in criminology at USF and she is amazing so that must be a great program too. I would've applied there if I wanted to stay in the South.
socnerd Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 (edited) One of the programs I'm applying to is an MA in Criminology and Public Sociology at UNC Wilmington, does that count? Most of my applications are for sociology, but my research is more criminologically based. Edited January 30, 2010 by socnerd
arna Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Of course it counts! Especially since there are so few of us... I saw an old criminology thread from a couple years ago and it seemed that they all heard from their schools in Feb.-early March. Do you guys know when you should be hearing back? Because I can't find anything on my programs' websites to indicate when I should start getting nervous.
catrin82 Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 I'm currently in the MA program in CJ at John Jay. I have applied to 15 PhD programs in criminology/criminal justice. I'm hoping for the best...Nice to see other criminology applicants here.
juror#1 Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 I applied to 8 programs for a Ph.D. in Psychology and Law (title changes depending on the program). So far I have been accepted to University of Texas El Paso's legal psych program and I have interviews in two weeks (yes they are in a row and I will be gone for a week straight!) at John Jay, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and University of Wyoming. I also applied to University of California-Irvine, WUSTL, University of Illinois-Chicago, and University of Virginia. I am really hoping that I get accepted to the schools I am interviewing with as UTEP was my safety school and I would really love to go to John Jay or UNL. We shall see.

juror#1 Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 Are you in a master's program now? If so, where? Nope, I am still in undergrad
arna Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 Nope, I am still in undergrad Yay, so there is some hope for undergrads getting accepted to doctoral programs! That makes me feel much better...most of the stuff I've read has been about an unwritten rule to only accept master's students.
highanxiety Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 Has anyone applied to UCI's PhD program?
highanxiety Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 I understand UCI began notifying "accepted" applicants last week, but no news on a rejection yet. Keeping my fingers crossed, but at this point I may lose circulation and have to have them amputated.

catrin82 Posted February 20, 2010 Posted February 20, 2010 Yeah, I got an acceptance at UCI on Feb 12. Good luck!

urbanchic Posted February 22, 2010 Posted February 22, 2010 I don't know if this helps or not, but I know someone who has been accepted to the Master Crim program at Rutgers.
digits2006 Posted February 22, 2010 Author Posted February 22, 2010 They just made a criminology section on the forum if yall want to go and make any threads there.
