PirateJenny Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 Hey y'all I'm new here. I'm an international applicant and will be visiting the University of Iowa in the middle of February. If any of you is doing the same, please contact me to examine the possibility of touring the town together / sharing a hotel room to save money [relevant for women].
rising_star Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 You may want to consult with the department you'll be visiting to see if any graduate students are able to house you. That would help you save on costs and potentially give you someone to tour the town with.
PirateJenny Posted January 17, 2017 Author Posted January 17, 2017 Hey rising_star, I only saw this now. Thanks for your suggestion.
GCBrittany Posted December 26, 2017 Posted December 26, 2017 It is going to be freezing here! It is very safe, so even if you don't have a buddy, walking around campus by yoursef during the day is totally doable. Iowa City is somewhat small, if you get a chance to look around downtown Des Moines, do it. It's got some nice food, shopping, and art spots... and isn't too far from the DSM International airport. Enjoy!

Enjoy! This is from last year, so I doubt the OP will be freezing- last winter was pretty mild! Also, I doubt someone would fly into DSM if they're going to Iowa City, when the Cedar Rapids airport is right there, and not usually much more expensive to fly into. Des Moines and Iowa City/Cedar Rapids are about the same size, with pretty similar variety in available stuff to do, in my experience.
