darlingguoguo Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 (edited) Hi,darlinggouguo, congrats!I also applied for IE at Purdue, but still "holding for review". Could you please share some of your progress with me? Did you contact a particular supervisor in advance? Thanks! Hi~ I got the email this morning, with an attachment of the admittance letter. Also, "Decisions on financial aids will be made shortly and should you be awarded an assistantship, we will notify you." And when I went to check the website, it says "Recommended by Program; processing at the Graduate School" instead of "under review" as before. I didn't contact anyone in particular during application. I guess they are just sending out results in several rounds, coz my roommate (also from Tsinghua IE) got her admittance letter at the same time~ :-) Edited February 16, 2010 by darlingguoguo

coolmicky Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 (edited) I also applied Purdue, got no news. I submitted my application in October or November. I wrote to ask my application status a couple of weeks ago, and they said my application was marked 21st, January and under review. Congratulations to darlingguoguo! Deleted Posted February 16, 2010 Author Posted February 16, 2010 Got accepted to Univ Florida today. :-) Nice! I imagine that NU is still above Florida in your selection but it must feel good to be accepted
coolmicky Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 coolmicky, does it mean that you are the 21st applicant who applied to the IE program ? I don't think so, it was marked 21st, January, like 01/21/2010
18apples Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 How do we Check the status of our applications for columbia? we need some Unique applicant ID ? i called Columbia and i was told that there is no such ID and the only way of knowing the status is waiting for emails from them Also found out since the deadline for MS OR was 15th Feb only it seems it will take a month more probably for the results
Deleted Posted February 17, 2010 Author Posted February 17, 2010 I received my rejection from Stanford today (expected)

bolani Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 I received my rejection from Stanford today (expected) me too! First app I filled out and I felt like I didn't do as well on it. Also reflected my less than awesome round 1 of GRE scores. My best friend might still be in the running though...he didn't get an email! I'm hoping he gets in. :-) Do you think they sent out all rejections at once and everyone else is admitted or that was just "round 1" of rejections? Interesting that we both got in to NU and rejected by Stanford, btw.

"GRE: 790Q 540V 5.0AW GRE: 4.0 3 years undergrad research, 7 publications/presentations @ conferences, 2 NSF REUs." do you have a 4.00 GPA for undergraduate, are you grad or under now, in US? I mean you looks like a very strong candidate. isn't your GRE enough for PH.D program? If they still reject you, what kind candidate they want?

I guess it also saves you from a tough decision to make between stanford and NU. It looks promising for your friend because it looks like they sent an awful lot of rejections today, so maybe they are hanging to the waitlisted+accepted? Good luck to him. PS: I am really amazed by the number of people who posted a rejection from Stanford today on the results board. The number of candidates must have been huge! It really is a tough year for PhD applicants with such a competitive pool and so little money for the universities to provide with aid

chimerical Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 (edited) Do you think they sent out all rejections at once and everyone else is admitted or that was just "round 1" of rejections? It might depend on the track. I received an acceptance to the strategy and org/tech/entrepreneurship concentrations at Stanford MS&E a few weeks ago. And I know there was another acceptance posted on College Confidential a while ago, but I don't know which track they had applied for. Edited February 17, 2010 by chimerical

You probably made yourself the most hated guy on the topic by the way, lol. Since we were wondering, would you mind sharing your profile? (I think the guy who posted his acceptance on CC said it was unofficial. He had inside information from a professor there)
chimerical Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 (edited) lol, well I do want to emphasize that this was for the strategy and organizations tracks, so it's not like I was really competing against anyone in this thread. All my other applications were to business doctoral programs; it's just that Stanford's strategic management program is in MS&E rather than the GSB. Here's my profile: BS Econ from Top 10 undergrad, 3.97 GPA Summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, High distinction in economics GRE: 740 Q, 730 V, 6.0 AW Math: Calc I-III, Linear Algebra, Probability & Statistics Letters: Econ prof (thesis supervisor), well-known strategy prof (RA supervisor), public policy prof (paper co-author) Research: Two years as an RA at alma mater's business school, economics honors thesis, independent research study Conferences/Pubs: Three first or single-author conference presentations, one first-author journal article under review. Work experience: 1.5 years in economic consulting I received an official acceptance letter (through email) on 2/9/10 and had been notified by phone the night before. This was after several conversations with faculty members in the strategy group starting in late January. They only accept one or two students per year so I was shocked to say the least. Congrats! ah you should have posted it earlier so we could have all patted you on the back. :-) You guys are too kind about my profile...everyone on here seems to be great and we're all probably competitive and have weaknesses in ways that aren't expressed by these stats. And to those who were wondering, I did low 700s the first round of GRE Quantitative. I retook it later in December after I submitted the Stanford app and did much better(though worse on verbal!). I am an undergrad still...I'll graduate in May with my BS IE. I also go to a big state school, not top 10. We're in the top 25 IE programs though no one would expect that who heard my school's name. : ) I'm so happy to have gotten admitted to any program I applied to. getting accepted to a school high on my list kind of keeps this from being anything I'm really sad about. I'm crossing my fingers for my friend. He refuses to look at these boards and doesn't want me to tell him anything. So maybe I'll be able to act surprised for him if he gets into Stanford!
bolani Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 So another topic to keep things interesting: what do you all do other than research/classes? For fun? Also, who is undergrad and who is a grad student?

chimerical Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 (edited) IEORyikes - Thanks for the kind words! I would have posted earlier but I didn't realize this thread even existed - I've been hanging out in the Business PhD forum. And I concur with everyone else - you have a fantastic profile and I am sure you will be receiving other great admits. And at the very least, you've already got Northwestern! That's awesome, congrats!! To answer your other questions, I've only got a bachelors degree and am currently working. Given my hours I don't have much time for fun. Guess it's good training for when I start my PhD. Edited February 17, 2010 by chimerical
