Hey! I noticed you applied to Yeshiva I interviewed there last month but haven't heard anything. Did they say when decisions would be out?

I haven't heard anything either! They never mentioned when they would be sending out decisions unfortunately :(

Yeah I'm getting pretty nervous since there are already two acceptances posted on the results page and who knows how many other acceptances were sent out but I also am not expecting to be accepted ..
But that's good to hear. Good luck on your interview! :)

Yea, I wouldn't be surprised if I don't get in either. Basically when I went in I was told "congratulations on getting an interview." Hah! Out of 70 people interviewed, only 16 get in. Yikes!

However, they did say that if I don't get into QC we will most likely see each other in the field as colleagues (at conferences and what not). It made me feel a bit better and I will not take their rejection hard at all.

They told me the same thing and told us that we were there because of our stats and all & even if we don't get into QC, they were sure that we'd get accepted into another program.

How did you feel about your interview? I'm currently an undergrad there & have been to the SLH center often so it felt like home and was pretty relaxed haha. I'm honestly just really grateful that I was even offered an interview because I wasn't so confident in my stats that I wasn't even planning to apply there so not expecting too much and won't be very sad even if I don't get the acceptance.

I just got an email today from Queens that I can check the decision on the portal. However, I clicked the link to the portal, signed in, and there was no link t to take me to the decision page. But being that there's only 15 spots and I didn't ever get an interview (and didn't get a phone call like the rest of the people who were offered admission) and have average stats, I can safely assume without a decision link that I was rejected ?

Same thing happened to me! I received an email around 5pm yesterday saying the decision was available but could not find anything on the portal. I wasn't too anxious because I hadn't been asked to interviews and figured it was a rejection. I checked this morning and there was a link at the bottom with the official rejection. Not sure why there was a delay but good luck!!

Side note: Did anyone else receive an additional letter from Adelphi explaining how estimated tuition for the program with be $90,000+ ?! I don't understand why their program is $20-30,000 more than all the others I have been accepted.

I also recieved that letter. I appreciate them being forthcoming but I don't understand why it is so much more money compared to other private schools in the area. I'll probably be declining their offer.

I'm still waiting to hear back from St. John's.

I agree, I wish every school provided the same information. Adelphi has sent me two letters since being accepted to provide me with more information, while other programs just sent out the acceptance and kinda leave it up to you to figure out the next steps. But, as a student who will be taking out loans, that is not enough to go an extra $30,000 in debt. Best of luck with St John's, I will most likely be declining my offer there and I hope that helps you out!!

I see you were looking for information that would help you decide between St John's and Malloy. What did you find out about St John's? I was not able to attend their open house.

I also got the rejection from Queens College but through email because I had an interview and they said that this time, the applicants were at an exceptionally high level .. Wasn't expecting too much since they only accept 16 students.
Seems like I'm going to Adelphi since that's the only school I've been accepted to .. but I also wanted to go there because they have a good reputation and I've only heard positive things about their program (even though the tuition is crazy).
I'm also waiting on St. Johns but they are taking forever to give back an answer and I need to submit my deposit to Adelphi by the 15th :(

I was unable to attend St. John's big open house but attended a smaller one where I was able to speak to a student currently in the program. She had positive things to say about the program. She said the professors are approachable but, she relies more on a small group of friends for information. She guesstimated classes have 25-30 people. You need to complete 60 hours in the campus clinic either your first or second semester (depending on your cohort- one does it first and one does it second) and it is up to your to make sure those hours are fulfilled. She explained it could get competitive, they'll send an email asking for a student to do screenings and you need to answer promptly in order to ensure you are getting enough hours in the clinic (she also noted she was able to complete 70 hours- so the hours are there you just need to be diligent). Their clinic is not on campus but close by. She stated she relies heavily on her car and she is not sure how students do it without one. As you may know, St. John's program is 46 credits at this time, she wasn't positive, but heard they may be increasing their credit requirement (even if it does happen, it MIGHT not affect the incoming students for fall 2017, but again none of this is definite). Estimated time to complete their current program is two years (this involves taking classes in the summer in between year 1 and year 2). She was a full time graduate assistant and said being a GA and a graduate student is A LOT, she recommended if I was interested in one to only do it part-time.  Most of her classes are held in the evening (5-7 and 7-9pm) but that does not rule out the possibility of a morning or afternoon class at some point in the program. That was the basic gist of our conversation, I tried to get an understanding of what a day in the life of a graduate student at St. John's was!

I am leaning more towards accepting the offer at Molloy because when I visited their program I got more of a tight-knit feel. They are a class of 40 rather than 50 and the only accept students in the Fall (So the difference of 200 graduate students at St. John's and 80 at Molloy). I felt more of a nurturing environment there while I got more of a need for independence vibe from St. John's. St. John's seems to have a wonderful program but given my personality, I just see myself spending the next two years at Molloy. Although my decision is not final. It is getting down to the wire and I'll be sending in a deposit shortly.

I hope this information was helpful!!!

Thank you for a really thorough explanation on St. John's!!!

The increasing of credits is kind of alarming and would definitely influence my decision. Did she mention what it would go up to? 60 credits?

Did the student feel like she needed her car to go back and forth from campus to clinic? Right now I don't have a car, born and raised in Manhattan, so that could be a potential negative. I was really hoping to rely on public transportation.

I can't remember exactly why she stressed the importance of a car. I remember asking her if the school provided transportation from the LIRR because I was considering commuting by train and that is when she said she really values her car. I want to say there was somethings she had to do off-site. I remember she mentioned a class that occasionally met at a nursing home for the professor to demonstrate techniques on actual patients. That being said, it is a university in Queens, so I'm sure you would not be the only student without a car. It may just be the difference of convenience when it comes to having a car and using public transportation.

As for the potential credit increase, she really didn't have any details on how much or when. It seemed like it was just talk in the department that she caught wind of. I'd imagine if you were entering the Fall, they would need to let you know of the credit increase before your started. It would be a little ridiculous if they added requirements when you were halfway through, but who knows with these schools! I wouldn't shy away from the program because of potential increased credit requirements but at the same time I wouldn't commit to this program purely because you like the amount of credits being on the low end.

I do hope they inform potential students if the credit increase goes through. Or maybe those students would be grandfathered in. I would assume it would have to be after their next ASHA review, right?

It would make a difference for me because I was offered a small scholarship to LIU Brooklyn, but due to the fact that their program is 63 credits, the cost of the master's program basically worked out to be the same price as St. John's. If St. John's were increase their credits then LIU would definitely be more appealing.

Sorry to interject, but had a question about LIU Brooklyn. Where did you find the total cost for the program? I thought I had bookmarked the page with all of those details, but with their site being re-branded it seems to have disappeared. I am pretty set on NYMC and submitted my deposit there, but have been trying to weigh out the final costs for all programs before I officially decline my acceptances at LIU and NYU. Thank you!

I just checked EdFind, after not looking since the fall, and I see LIU Brooklyn is "Accreditation of Probation." :o Yikes, that makes me nervous and might change my opinion. I called ASHA and was transfered to the CAA department where I had to leave a message. The rep told me that in order for someone to have their ASHA license or C's you would have needed to attend an accredited school.

Anyone have info about schools on probation? Is it likely LIU will lose their CAA accreditation, and essentially make their degree irrelevant?

Yep. Same thing ended up happening to me, but of course - it happened while I was on the phone with QC grad admissions telling them how it wasn't working when it magically decided to work <_< But yeah, it was a rejection. Sucks though - because I do love that college and would've loved the chance to continue my studies there. Ah well.

Had an interview at Touro the other day. They asked some very unexpected nerve-wracking questions but I'm hoping it went as well as I thought it did

Okay, that's about what I thought for tuition. Thanks for sharing the link. That is so scary re: their accreditation on probation status! Imagine being halfway through your program and then you find out it's no longer accredited? I don't even know what you'd do in that situation. I panicked and checked the other schools on my list and actually NYU is under review right now (not on probation, just their most recent accreditation is up). I'm sure they'll get renewed because they're NYU but something to consider I guess...

Thank you so much for this info! It was very helpful for me as I am trying to choose between St. John's and Hofstra right now. I haven't had the chance to visit St John's yet (going to see the campus tomorrow), but I think I'm leaning more towards Hofstra. It seemed like a close knit community and I just got a very positive vibe there in general. Also- I like that the clinic is on campus as opposed to off campus like St. John's.

No problem! I try to find out as much as possible about each program (which is a struggle lol) and I'm happy to share my findings. Keep in mind, what I wrote about St. John's was based on one student's experience. I'm sure if you speak to someone different, they would have different things to say. That being said, I personally did not get the "close knit community" vibe from St. John's. Enjoy your visit to campus and good luck with your decision!

I felt good throughout the entire interview. I even got to take a small tour with my group and ask a first year grad student a bunch of questions. I can't recall what questions I asked. I was just so happy I got to walk around a bit and look at some of the therapy rooms.

So did I , except our tour was given by the person who interviewed us cause most of the grad students were in sessions. Did you hear back? I didn't get in but didn't feel horrible

I didn't hear back yet. I checked the application website, but I don't see an update...or maybe I just don't know where to find it. I need to hear back soon though :( because so far it's between Hofstra and LIU Post for me.

I was notified via email. People who weren't offered interviews had their portal updated
