  1. Look into Speech@NYU. Part time is at least 6 credits. All classes are online and you only have to come to NY for 2 long weekends during the course of your studies. Most of the live classes are held between 4-9 PM Eastern time, but there are a few earlier classes.
  2. What is the private Facebook page for students? I tried the link someone posted on 2NYU but it doesn't work.
  3. I second Magoosh. Download their free vocabulary and math app and practice whenever you have a free moment. I raised my verbal score by 5 points in less than a month by studying their flashcards. Also try reading sophisticated newspapers like the New York Times, Wall Street Journal and Reuters. Often their vocabulary is in sync with the GRE.
  4. Hi, since you started the online cohort, I had a question about the academic calendar. I looked online and the NYU calendar says summer classes end around August 15, but when I was on Albert in showed the that Speech@NYU classes end around August 25. My question is, how much of a break is there between the summer sessions and the fall? I have a destination wedding next August in Europe and I'm wondering if I can make it.
  5. I'm starting in September. How do you like the program so far? How are lessons structured? Is it a lecture style or more of a discussion?
  6. I agree, $75 is a small price to pay! If I'm lucky enough to get called for an interview I will definetly PM you. When did you submit your application?
  7. When did you submit your application? I applied but I think I just donated $75 to the DOE lol. I already have a NYS ed license and I know it bars me from consideration, buuut I figured "who knows what might happen," so I sent an application in anyway. Good luck and please report back about how the interview goes!
  8. LIU is on academic probation. Read the report on CAA. There is about 8 reasons why; and they have until January 2018 to fox the issues. I took my pre-reqs there and the department was disorganized. This creates a lot of undue stress. The office staff make it seem like it is a hassle to do anything for you. I heard the head of their department was let go. You may be put in their online cohort so if that is not a learning style you are comfortable with then I would give it some consideration. An old coworker of mine is graduating from Touro in May. She took her pre-reqs there and she seems happy with the program. I have heard bad things about Touro in general for all programs including SLP. Some people do not think very highly of that school, but I'd lean more toward Touro than LIU.
  9. What cohort is this group for? I start in September. I must be a real Scorpio (private type) since I keep low social media profile and don't even have a Facebook! Just IG. Do you recommend signing up for a Facebook account to join this group? I like the idea of chamraderie and getting to know my classmates. Is Facebook the only platform, besides the NYU affiliated, that students use to communicate and pass information?
  10. Just received my rejection letter in the mail from St. John's! Disappointed since it did not even mention their waitlist. I wonder what type of student this school wants. My GPA and GRE scores are higher than most of the people who posted to the results section. Maybe they want a traditional student or those interested in the medical side of SLP. Someone on this forum once said the program is medically based but everyone I've met who graduated from the program works in a school. Oh well, I'm grateful I was accepted to three other schools. Best of luck to you and I hope you get an offer!
  11. I just called graduate admissions and a recording stated that the school is closed from today Thursday April 13 till Monday April 17. I doubt anyone will get offer over the next few days unless there is some sort of automated system. This is one of my top choices but with all this stress I'm wondering if I should just be happy with my offer to Speech@NYU. Both programs have pro's and con's.
  12. I saw someone on the results page was accepted to St. John's today! I wonder how they determine who gets an acceptance offer because a lot of the people who have been accepted to St. John's have lower stats and GRE scores than me.
  13. I think the Speech@NYU deadline for Fall 2017 is in May or June, if your interested.
  14. BTW I see you applied to St. John's and Touro. Have you heard back from St. John's? I haven't. If you have not heard back from Touro, don't lose hope, two years ago my coworker found out in May that she was accepted to Touro.
  15. Congratulations! I too am accepted but I'm not sure if I will accept their offer. My friend's friend attends the program and told me that the SLP department head was just fired. They seem to be going through a major restructuring. They are extremely disorganized. You also may have been accepted to the online cohort. It's not well known, but that was what I was accepted to. Good luck!
  16. My coworker said she liked the program and said that although the clinic director has a reputation for being mean/strict, she felt she was great. As a non traditional student, who worked full time as a teacher, my coworker couldn't really speak about the sense of community or activities, because she was only looking to get her degree and advance her career. She did say that although she was older than most of her peers, they were all welcoming and nice. I'm still waiting to hear from St. John's but I'm leaning toward Speech@NYU. I'll definitely be declining my offer to Adelphi because the tuition will be more than NYU. I'll also probably decline my offer to LIU Brooklyn because they are on academic probabtion with CAA and ASHA. I wish I could just hear back from SJU so I can make a fully informed decision about where I'll be on September.
  17. I'd be happy to ask her any questions you have. I know the school allowed her to do her internships/clinic/externships on The weekends and during the summer. She worked full time as a teacher while enrolled in the program. The evening classes are the reason I applied. I would have loved to apply to the CUNY's but they are day programs, and with the financial commitments at his point in my life, I can't quit my job or go part time.
  18. It's the same situation for me. I have not heard back from them either and they are the last school I'm waiting on. I keep calling admissions but get conflicting information about acceptance deadlines. I wish they would be more forthcoming. I also never recieved a straight answer regarding how admissions decisions are sent out. Since some people recieved acceptances last month the only logical conclusion I can think of is that they are waiting to see who accepts/declines their offer before they send out their next round of acceptances. Anyone have any luck calling the department? I wonder if they accept mainly their undergrads... BTW my coworker attended their program a few years ago and heard back so late in April that she thought they lost her application!
  19. http://liu.edu/Brooklyn/Enrollment-Services/Tuition I just checked EdFind, after not looking since the fall, and I see LIU Brooklyn is "Accreditation of Probation." Yikes, that makes me nervous and might change my opinion. I called ASHA and was transfered to the CAA department where I had to leave a message. The rep told me that in order for someone to have their ASHA license or C's you would have needed to attend an accredited school. Anyone have info about schools on probation? Is it likely LIU will lose their CAA accreditation, and essentially make their degree irrelevant?
  20. I do hope they inform potential students if the credit increase goes through. Or maybe those students would be grandfathered in. I would assume it would have to be after their next ASHA review, right? It would make a difference for me because I was offered a small scholarship to LIU Brooklyn, but due to the fact that their program is 63 credits, the cost of the master's program basically worked out to be the same price as St. John's. If St. John's were increase their credits then LIU would definitely be more appealing.
  21. Thank you for a really thorough explanation on St. John's!!! The increasing of credits is kind of alarming and would definitely influence my decision. Did she mention what it would go up to? 60 credits? Did the student feel like she needed her car to go back and forth from campus to clinic? Right now I don't have a car, born and raised in Manhattan, so that could be a potential negative. I was really hoping to rely on public transportation.
  22. Thanks! I see you were looking for information that would help you decide between St John's and Malloy. What did you find out about St John's? I was not able to attend their open house.
  23. I also recieved that letter. I appreciate them being forthcoming but I don't understand why it is so much more money compared to other private schools in the area. I'll probably be declining their offer. I'm still waiting to hear back from St. John's.
  24. Thanks for your response! I was accepted for the full time track but I'm having reservations. Since I work full time in a school and have the summers off I thought I could do a good chunk of the hours in the summer, but it seems like NYU might not allow that. I completely understand getting a feeling for the work environment and learning the necessary skills on site Monday- Friday, but if the ASHA requirment is 400 hours I can't see why it matters what day of the week or time of year I accrue those hours. I have one colleague, a former teacher, who went back to school for SLP and continued to teach, so I know some schools do make accomdations. Good luck and I hope you will keep us posted on how it's going!
