CrimJustice Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 I received an unofficial acceptance two weeks ago with the news that I would receive a formal acceptance and information on a funding package "soon". What is "soon"!? This "soon" has got me checking my email 20+ times a day. I understand it needs to go through the Faculty of Graduate Studies, but can "soon" be "SOON"!? The word soon has now lost all meaning to me. DBear 1
2017 Applicant Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 This exact thing happened to me. It turned out soon meant "two weeks and a day" in that case. However, in situations like this I think "soon" mostly means "we promise it's coming, please don't forget about us!" If this delay is affecting your decision-making I don't think it would hurt to send them an email letting them know, and they would probably do their best to expedite getting that information to you. Otherwise, they are probably already moving things along as quickly as they reasonably can. I think in both your case and mine, the professor probably contacted us as soon as they could say we were "for sure" in because they were excited, and everyone likes to pass on good news. So think of that as the silver lining. I think it's a nice personal touch, better than getting an automated notification that your decision is available online.
angesradieux Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 I'm in the same boat waiting for the official e-mail. But instead of being a reasonable human being and figuring there's some bureaucratic thing causing it to take time, I'm sitting here wondering if something happened to make them change their mind, or if the unofficial acceptance was a mistake. I don't think I'll be able to sleep until everything's official. MarSa 1
MarSa Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 God, I'm not the only one then. In the morning I'm all "Oh, they said yes I have only to wait, you know, bureaucracy and stuff", in the evening "They have changed their minds, oh my God they have changed their minds". DBear 1
HiFiWiFi Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 (edited) All these years playing Blizzard games have at least prepared me for something. Edited February 15, 2017 by HiFiWiFi
CoffeeFueledAnxiety Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 I've also been told that the official decision will be out "soon, possibly in the next few weeks" aaaaand it has been four weeks with no news at all..
MarSa Posted February 18, 2017 Posted February 18, 2017 I'm in this Limbo where I don't know if I'm allowed to be happy (and then already to celebrate) or if I should say nothing because they might still change their decision. It's almost 2 weeks!

This response is so on point, turns out that "soon" really did mean two weeks and a day! They came back with a funding package and some additional nominations for scholarships which, keeping with this entire process, I will receive the results for "soon". DBear and 2017 Applicant 2
MarSa Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 I don't want to be annoying, but when can I legitimately start worrying? Two weeks have passed and no official email yet.

Two weeks have passed and no official email yet. There's no point in worrying. In the very unlikely event they are changing their minds without keeping you informed of their concerns, there is nothing you can do about it. It's best to just be patient and wait for the official acceptance. MarSa 1
