Hello all,

Wondering if anyone's heard a peep from UIC yet? Last year, people heard back on February 5 according to the results search. Anyone heard anything at all? Phone call? Interview? Letter? Email?

Zilch from this side.

I applied to UIC too and zilch... nada.... silence on their part

I've checked the applications status and it's same "pending...under manual review" for three weeks now. I am going to hold on to hope that silence is a good thing.

I'm glad there's other applicants here. Did you talk to anyone in the department or do a campus visit?

I emailed Dr. Garcia before, expressing my interest in working with her. I didn't get a chance to visit the campus and I'm hoping that I would get the invitation for visitation week. Gosh, the wait is killing me. Did you contact any faculty?

Yes, I contacted a few. I did a campus visit and met some faculty also. Also, talked to a Phd grad student. I really liked the department. Seems very tightly knit and every person being funded for four years doesn't hurt either! I don't know how big the size of the cohort is each year.

I didn't realize there was a visitation week. Do you know when it is? The wait is excruciating.

Had to add this in: If you hear anything at all, let us know!!

I know about the visitor's weekend from their website. And if you do hear anything, but give a shout out too! :P

I just received an email from the secretary stating that my application was complete. I thought that I received that email a long time ago! Weird. Did you receive the same email?

Yup. I got that email eons ago. Hmmm, I wonder if that means they are only beginning to review applicants now? OH no! That would mean that this agonizing waiting period is going to be exponentially longer. Sigh... I need a drink (it must be 5pm somewhere in the world :P)

Or maybe they wanted to send you a CONGRATS YOU ARE ADMITTED email but sent the wrong one instead? (now, desperately going through my spam folders to see if I have any emails from UIC. hahaha)

I emailed the grad secretary and she said that we should hear back about decisions by the end of this month. So strange. What on earth? Why are they sending the same email again? She had told me that we should have heard of decisions by end of january. Now, she sends another email and states that they're going to give me a decision by the end of this month. I'm so confused AND exasperated. How long do I have to wait? Geeeeez.

All I got from her (her name is Amanda right?) a long time ago was that the dept has received all my information. That's it. And I didn't receive the 2nd email that you talked about. Oh no... I hope this isn't an augury (finally an application to the ton of words I've learned for the GRE :P) of something inauspicious.

No clue what is going on. I had the same reaction that you had about maybe her accidentally sending me the wrong email. Hopefully, it's not a rejection! I also am considered an international applicant so I am not sure if that has anything to do with it. Though I sent everything in and my application was complete ages and ages ago. I even checked online in the application status.

Maybe you'll get it later today or tomorrow. If not, then, I'm going to start to worry!

when i said inauspicious, i was actually talking about myself. since they made more contact with you, it is highly probably that you might be a probable applicant. ARGH! I can feel my bloody pressure rising. Interestingly, I'm also an international applicant.

Please let me know if you get that email too. It really makes no sense!! What's more frustrating is that my application status hasn't budged in a negative or positive way. More waiting. Aargh!

Someone I know just got into UI-C Sociology. They received an email apparently. Anyone else heard anything?

Yeah, they sent out emails of acceptances on Thursday :-(

Depths of despair, did you find out through the department?

Also, should I call the department secretary and ask if they had sent out emails yesterday? I received an email from the secretary on Monday informing me that my application was complete for review. Then, I had written to her about decisions of the adcoms and she'd replied stating that I'd have an answer by the end of the month. Not sure about all this.

karakiz, let me know if you do... i heard nothing yet.

I know that the department had told me back in January that they had over a 100 applicants and that we should hear back by end of January because the adcoms were meeting every week (15 applications per session). If I hear anything, I'll let you know, ineedcaffeine.

captiv8ted, let us know if you hear anything for sure. I'm still wondering how one of the posters on this thread found out about acceptances being sent out yesterday.

My friend received an email on Thursday inviting her to the Open House (first week of March) and they offered her a TAship for 3 years.....I have no idea what this means for the rest of us.

I haven't heard anything either but one of my advisors told me that since others have gotten a reply about acceptances, it probably means I am (we're) on a waiting list. My status on the application status hasn't changed, no email from anyone in the dept and no mail either. However, if the Open House is the first week of March, it could mean that we might hear something right before or right after then.

Any contributions, 2 cents, welcome.
