beanca3017 Posted April 9, 2017 Posted April 9, 2017 Hello, I currently work a very stressful job as a care manager coordinating svs for 65+ elderly clients. I have a caseload of 84 clients and I am looking to pursue a very affordable MSW online. Online will be the best option for me given that my job requires me to be on call and I spend a great deal of time past my regular working hours completing documentation, assessments, dealing with crisis. However, I am a bit hesitant about online programs due to the online stigma. I live in CT and I am worried about enrolling in online school in a states like North Dakota, SC, Florida where there are affordable programs. What will employers think? I want to complete my MSW asap and I am looking to start this year, deadlines have passed for in state MSW programs. If I attend in state schools like UCONN or SCUS I will have to wait until next year to apply and will have to attend part time which drags out to 3 years. Any advice or experience with good online programs anyone?
louise86 Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 I completed the distance education program at the University of Tennessee and I highly recommend it. The deadline to apply for the fall has passed, though, and you'll probably run into that issue with other schools, as well. I think distance education is becoming more accepted because students have to complete the same coursework and field placements as on campus students. I do think it helps to attend a program that has a brick and mortar school as oppose to a place like Walden.
AutumnSweater Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 Hi Beanca! I did some research online, and there are several good online programs. In my case, tuition is a relevant factor and online programs tend to be expensive. USC simmons humbolt state university (this is more affordable) Here is a list of accredited universities that offer online MSW programs: http://www.thebestschools.org/rankings/best-online-master-social-work-degree-programs/
