cbsag123 Posted November 14, 2017 Posted November 14, 2017 I've seen many posts of people talking about having a quant background when applying for polisci phd programs. what exactly is a quant program? is having taken some econ classes considered a quant background? or is a econ minor? what about stats/methodology classes?
deutsch1997bw Posted November 14, 2017 Posted November 14, 2017 Could take a variety of forms. I, for example, have taken courses in quantitative research methods. I'm also proficient in R, a programming language. Others might have taken classes in econometrics. That would certainly qualify as quantitative training, as well.
cbsag123 Posted November 14, 2017 Author Posted November 14, 2017 I have taken classes in quantitative research methods as well and I'd consider myself to be proficient in R too. I also took intro econ classes, but I've never taken any stats classes. Would that be considered a decent quant background?
ExponentialDecay Posted November 14, 2017 Posted November 14, 2017 depends on the methodological focus of your program (some are quanty; some are very quanty) and your research agenda
