Hi,

Any news on ECE admissions at UCSD? This is one school Im eagerly awaiting decisions for. I see a few American admits in the results section. Any idea when the rest of them are out or whether UCSD evaluates International admits after American admits or any small bit of info on UCSD ECE would be greatly appreciated.

Me too waiting for UCSD. I don't think they have started reviewing applications for ECE yet. I guess you were talking about BME applicants. I talked to them like a week back. They gave me the standard reply : "will let you know the decison by April" Most of the schools do reviews for pure sciences before engineering. Some time in March we can expect an update. By the way what area ?

Nice to know that I am into Signal processing. I called up the graduate admissions office (not the ECE one) and the lady said that ECE committee hasnt probably even met and might take a month. But was a bit concerned seeing a few 'A' admits in the results section What area have you applied to?

One of my friends was admitted to UCSD's ECE program (in signal processing) so they have definitely started sending out some decisions.

good luck to all of you. if your attendance is contingent upon the funding, then trust me, waiting for that is not any easier than waiting for the admission decision itself. I'm getting more paranoid than I was before I heard back..

I applied to Commn theory and systems but actually I stated Information Theory on my SOP.

All:

I called UCSD eecs admin today. They said they are reviewing applications by discipline( Signal Proc/ systems/Optics etc). The decisons for all disciplines would be out in the next 2 weeks.. so there is hope .

I got a mail from ECE dept that they have nominated me for admissions and given fellowship for 1st year ( Departmental Fellowship) on February 26th. I applied in Information theory +coding theory

@ theta: I was sent an email on February 23rd from the EE department saying that I've been accepted into the PhD program (Communications focus). The attached pdf said the following:

Furthermore, you are one of a select group of applicants currently under consideration by the Communication Theory and Systems faculty to receive a fellowship to cover your graduate school tuition and other expenses. You will be notified during the week of March 15th in the event that we are able to award a fellowship to you.

Did you receive the same thing? Does each research focus have its own fellowship?

Anyway the story so far, people who have applied to communications group have started getting the admits. Cool, congrats to ye all Just hoping they show some mercy to people in other areas too

So what does UCSD do? take in its PhD applicants generally and then let the 'kids' talk their way around professors or the profs choose the 'kids' they want to advise for the coming years?

I read from some Prof webpages that it was the first option that usually was the case. People with admits, how has it been in your case?

I got an admit from UCSD (ECE) on February 26. I had applied to communication theory and systems track. Somebody was curious to know about my stats on grad cafe and asked me to post them on this forum.

UG CGPA: 9.84/10.0

GRE: 1380 ( q. 800, v. 580), AW : 4.0.

Heard from reliable sources that UCSD has a visit day next week and most likely admits are invited. Is this true? And does this visit day - likely admits also apply for international students?

Hi all,

I am admitted to circuits & systems track (I am a "U" in gradcafe terminology). One of the profs called me on tuesday and invited me to the recruit weekend which is on march 11-13... He said they are gonna decide on fellowships after recruitment weeekend. He also said it was different for comm. & info theory track, they decided on fellowships beforehand. He also said he was trying to contact all the international admits before he called me. Thats all the info I have..

Btw, I would appreciate if you would share your ideas with me on UCSD rfic/microwave circuits track. How strong is their program? Thanks and good luck to you all..!

A bit of information from a prof at UCSD, the univ policy is to have 10% of the total funding only for non citizens and would mostly end up with the PhDs ...

Btw congrats for the deferred admit

However after one year of residency on California, the tution will be reduced to instate. So you probably do not have to bother too much about paying Out of state fee ( just in case you don't know) congrats !

Got an email from UCSD saying that they were missing my transcripts:(. They should have told me this way before. All this inspite of bugging them for the status of my application from December. Now I am not sure my application will even undergo any review since already a few decisions have already been made.

This is to the ones who got into the PhD program, Communication track and received a departmental / university fellowship:

Is UCSD your top choice? If not, (and of course if you have another offer already), can you decline your offer so they move on to the 2nd round of fellowships?
