Fellow criminology/CJ applicants, I found an article while looking for literature for a paper. It outlines the different programs in the US and Canada, admissions process, doctoral students and faculty etc. Maybe others have read it already, but it seems really interesting in terms of admissions stats and so on, although somewhat dated. Here's the citation:

Frost, Natasha, A. and Clear, Todd. R. (2007). Doctoral Education in Criminology and Criminal Justice. Journal of Criminal Justice Education, 18(1), 35-52.

Enjoy!

Interesting - though this survey is probably far more relevant now as it's from the last academic year. The ADPCJ survey has information on applications, admissions, graduate program size, stipend, percentage receiving jobs after receiving a PhD, etc.

Pretty interesting and it appears applications have gone way up since 2005.

Thank you both! I'm always looking for this kind of info and I rarely find it. I wish all the schools would make this information available; it would make it a little easier to compare the programs.

There was also a study done that showed that, while younger students who did well on the GRE had a higher completion rate in Crim Master's programs, older students with low GRE scores had a higher completion rate with Crim PhD programs (I think that's how it went - all I know is it made me feel a little better). Anyway, I'll try and find it and post it to the forum.
