nycpolicy Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 Pasting part of an email I received from SIPA about an hour ago. Did anyone else get this or is his some sort of mistake :/ I could definitely take the extra time to get some of my materials reviewed, but don't want to risk it - yanks28th and wittgensteinsbladder 2
wittgensteinsbladder Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 I got this too, and was just about to ask the same thing. It seems too good to be true, but I’d be happy for an extra week of polishing! Trying to decide if I should take it or just submit now.
nycpolicy Posted January 5, 2018 Author Posted January 5, 2018 And has this gone only to the MPA applicants? In that case it would seem fishy to me.
wittgensteinsbladder Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 It’s from the same email that confirmed which materials I was missing yesterday, so it couldn’t be fake or anything. Maybe MPA applications are down?
yanks28th Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 I'm applying for an MIA and I got one too. Maybe they are getting calls from people that lost power and can't finish their application because of the snow storm? wittgensteinsbladder 1
Heididoodoo Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 I’m also a MIA applicant and receive the email as well! yanks28th 1
yzo Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 Guys, any luck getting confirmation from the office? I'm confused because the portal isn't reflecting the changed (?) deadline. wittgensteinsbladder 1
yanks28th Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 Not yet. I called them an hour ago and I just sent them an email as well. Perhaps they went home for the night since the deadline isn't until tonight. But I would love to have this clarified as well.
nycpolicy Posted January 6, 2018 Author Posted January 6, 2018 I doubt that it's going to reflect anywhere else right now. I also tried calling them but its outside office hours now. The question is, is everyone here taking the extra time? I would really love to..but don't know if it would reflect negatively on the final application :/ Thoughts? yanks28th 1
yanks28th Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 I heard that they were going to be open till midnight tonight, but again my concern is that they went home now.
nycpolicy Posted January 6, 2018 Author Posted January 6, 2018 Seems so. When have you decided to submit?
yanks28th Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 I'm probably submitting next week. I'm still working on my application, and if I think it's perfect then I'll send it in tonight.
wittgensteinsbladder Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 I'm taking the extra time. I don't think it can reflect negatively if they've changed the deadline.
nycpolicy Posted January 8, 2018 Author Posted January 8, 2018 Was anyone able to get a response from admissions on this? The blog/website is still not updated with the dates.
Stumble Posted January 8, 2018 Posted January 8, 2018 Hi. I received the following response: Thank you for your message. You need to have submitted the application by January 5th in order to qualify for the extension. Does this mean we wouldn't qualify for any scholarship? yzo 1
nycpolicy Posted January 8, 2018 Author Posted January 8, 2018 That doesn't make sense. If we would've submitted the application by 5th then why would we need an extension? I'll write to them as well right now and update on response. wittgensteinsbladder 1

This doesn't make any sense and definitely wasn't mentioned in the email they sent.
wittgensteinsbladder Posted January 8, 2018 Posted January 8, 2018 I got this response from the office: "Thank you for your message. I apologize for the confusion. The deadline has been extended to the 12th."
yzo Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 I got the same response: Thank you for your message. You need to have submitted the application by January 5th in order to qualify for the extension. Thoroughly confusing.
wittgensteinsbladder Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 Maybe they meant you needed to have started the application to qualify?
nycpolicy Posted January 9, 2018 Author Posted January 9, 2018 @wittgensteinsbladder what exactly did you write to the office?

I cited the response that @Stumble and @yza got and asked for clarification. If you want the verbatim email I sent I can DM it to you @aaprabhakar. Have they not responded to your email? Stumble Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 I received the same response as @wittgensteinsbladder when I asked for further clarifications. We are eligible for the scholarship if we submit our application by the 12th.
