The real answer is because SIPA is a major cash cow unfortunately. MPA-ID is a great program, but is internationally focused, so US domestic folks don't apply as much—I'm a domestically focused MPP, and some of the MPA-ID courses I took were among the best classes I took at HKS. I can't speak to SAIS.

As someone who had to spend the last half semester remote at HKS—you should delay. I cannot in good conscience recommend that you start a policy program remotely. The in-person educational experience is worth it. The remote version does not have the same level of engagement, and you are paying significant opportunity cost for that. It simply is not the same. Caveat: It may be worth it if you already quit your job, or if you're really ready for a transition. -
Weird, it's almost like different people come to different decisions. On a more serious note, if PSLF is still around, combined with a little help from Harvard's Loan Repayment Assistance Program (LRAP), the debt won't be all that terrible for me. The career/network advantages over Harris seem to make it worth it. Definitely a big "if" though...

Alright it’s official, I’m going yolo and paying full tuition to HKS. Believe me, I understand the financial implications. Harris still says they’re willing to negotiate further, and I’ll hear them out, but it feels official at this point. I hope to be the counterpoint to the doom and gloom “think long and hard...” type posts. But feel free to check in on me (email notifications should be turned on) in a couple years to see if I regret it! I’ll be honest.

I’m in this quandary. Depends what size of offer Harris comes back with and what feeling I get at HKS admit day. Would love to talk with you folks also deliberating over this, it’s kinda eating me up.

What does the field look for instead in your view? I.e. What sort of classes are you pushing to replace stats coursework at Duke?

Does anyone have experience negotiating with Harris with an HKS acceptance in hand? I’m trying to decide how high my request should be with $15k from Harris now.

Do any of you know if there's still room for funding negotiation (I have other funding offers in hand), or if that ship has already sailed? I'm watching the financial aid webinar right now, and haven't seen anything yet.
