  1. I'm an international and I recently got accepted into the IMV program at University of Rochester, but I also applied to Princeton and University of Washington. University of Washington accepts very very few internationals per year, but if you have an outstanding gpa and GRE (being this last one the important one being an international) and your LoR is strong, you can give it a try. But as biotechie said... not the easiest one here. Princeton... I really don't know as they simply rejected me, but I guess it's more or less the same: excellent GPA and GRE and you'll have a chance. Maybe the funding issue makes them accept more internationals at Princeton though. At Rochester I think it was all about the fit in my case. They normally take 9-10 new students per year. Good luck!!
  2. Hey! I'm going to Rochester too! I'm interested in the White Coat neighborhood. I've heard it's in walking distance to the U of R and many medical students live there. Any insights?
  3. It's finally time to decide. I'm going to attend Rochester next fall! USA, here I come!!
  4. Wow bassish, congratulations!! MIT is totally my dream school and I was just thinking how awesome it would have been to be accepted there. Your list of acceptances is really impressive. I wonder what you're going to decide...! Any clues you can give us? BTW, official acceptances from both UBC and U of R today!! Yay!!!
  5. Woohoo, just received unofficial acceptance from University of Rochester IMV!! One question: does an official acceptance usually come with additional information about stipend and courses and so on??
  6. The rejection pre-interview to the Microbiology program at University of Indiana just came in. Was about time!
  7. Oh man - I interviewed per skype with the program director and the POI I mentioned on my SOP in early january, then was told to Skype with two adcom members in mid february and then... silence. Last weekend was the last of their interview weekends and I guess they wanted to interview all potential students before deciding anything, but this waiting is killing me! All this frenetic email refreshing had stopped in january, but it's back!! Congratulations on all your acceptances! How's it going with the decision making?
  8. I have a dilemma now... I hope you can give me some piece of advice. I interviewed at my (now) #1 choice program per skype in early january. I enjoyed both interviews and the POI I talked to told me that he had recommended me to the ad com after our interview and that he thought I had a fair chance of getting accepted. Nevertheless the acceptance rate after interviews is around 30%, so it's hard for me to be overly optimistic. The program director told me I would probably know about admission decision after the interview weekends, in late February - beginning of March but insisted I should stay put (don't know if this is just a formality or if it shows interest). Nevertheless, someone posted on Friday that they had been accepted after the first interview round. In the meantime I have been accepted at my #4 choice. I'm pretty excited about the location, but not so much about the project, the POI and the feasibility in terms of stipend. The thing is, my POI told me I should let him now about my decision ASAP and that I had until end of february to decide. I'm waiting now for the decision at #1 choice, but I'm afraid decision will arrive too late and that I will have already made a decision about #4. The second interview weekend is March 1, so decision would probably arrive by March 8. I don't know if I should be straightforward, tell them the situation and ask if I'm still in the game or if I should just wait and wish for the best timing? Any thoughts? P.S: My #2 and #3 choices will need at least 3 or 4 months to make any decision but I'm definitely not betting on getting accepted, so I'm nowhere near of declining an offer without carefully thinking about it. It's already my 2nd time applying and I'm ready for the change!
  9. Hi! I have been accepted to UBC for my PhD and I got a stipend of 19K (bruto). I think I'll have to pay for tuition as well. Do you think I'll have to live very frugally?? Your opinion would be really helpful!! Thanks!
  10. Guys, I need help! I had an interview with a potential supervisor from U British Columbia. Before he decided to interview me, he asked me to send him my transcripts and my recs had to sent him their letters. He told me that he was interviewing a couple of other students and if he decided to offer me a position, I would have to apply to the experimental medicine program at UBC. Today, he offered me a position with a stipend (he has been awarded with a pretty good grant)!!! And asked me to inform him on my decision ASAP because he wants me to begin in August-September. But I'm kind of lost now... Does this mean that I have to apply to the program, but I'm unofficially accepted? (maybe because his grant would cover the expenses and not the department?) Any thoughts??
  11. Hmm... normally they confirmed the date at least 3 or 4 days before. They'll probably interview you Jan 28, don't worry! If they offer you an interview although your POI does not accept students this year, it means they really like you, so as cleverfool said, be honest and list the potential POIs for you. It will be fine, you'll see!
  12. MIT rejection... It was a nice dream though!
  13. Woohoo! Consistently one of 50 international students accepted for my UW Seattle program.I feel better now! One of the questions I got was "What excited you most of your research?"
  14. Oh, ok! Mine would be the Experimental Medicine Program. I thought it was the same for all bioscience programs. I'll ask the POI when we interview... thanks MicroB2012!
  15. Hey! Is anyone applying to UBC in Canada? Before you apply to a PhD program you have to secure a supervisor but, as I understand it, securing a supervisor does not mean acceptance nor high chances to be accepted, right? Any experiences?
