  1. It seems to vary from school to school. When I got mine two years ago, the letter came before the school heard anything.
  2. In the past, that's happened some time in July or early August.
  3. My department has a similar lack of funding - and we don't really have RAships available, either. So, as I said, I understand why they don't want me to TA if I've secured external funding, since there are people who could really use the funds. Personally, though, I am (blindly) hoping to continue teaching after my doctorate. As such, even with eight semesters of TA'ing under my belt I still feel like I should get more experience while I can. Beyond that, I really do enjoy teaching in certain subjects and I'd hate to both give that up AND get a three-year gap in my CV. Grumble, grumble.
  4. A question to all: What are your departmental policies on holding a SSHRC (or other major award) and TA-ships? Having secured a CGS, my department wants me to cease TA'ing for the duration of my award. I can understand where they're coming from as funds are limited, but a three year gap on my CV is kind of scary. Edit: I should add that TAships are awarded through a competitive process, and are not considered a portion of my department's funding package.
  5. To add to that, it can be argued that it's better on your CV to have an external award than internal funding, alone. I understand where you're coming from (OP, not you Andsowego), but it's a huge risk you'd be taking.
  6. Head's still swimming, here. I was offered a CGS, and will be coming into the first year of my PhD this fall. Here are my stats: Location: Montreal SSHRC Committee: Humanities 1 - Literature and Fine Arts Score: 22/30 Previous awards: MA SSHRC, bunch of departmental awards Grad GPA: 4.0/4 Undergrad GPA: 11.68/12 Other 2012 applications: Waitlisted at FQRSC. Bon courage, all. May your results come soon, and bear good news.
  7. The 1907/1085 numbers are the EXACT numbers from last year's competition, so I think that someone at SSHRC forgot to update the Word document until a bunch of letters were already printed.
  8. For what it's worth, you're not alone in the uncertainty. There's a lot riding on getting funding, and it's completely absurd that people have to wait until June, July, even August to know whether they can afford to go. :/ Also for what it's worth, there's still no letter for me in Montreal. I've set up a small notification trigger on the mailbox so I'll know if the mail has been delivered. I'll probably call SSHRC later if the letter isn't here after today's delivery.
  9. Personally, I'm wondering what to do if my letter doesn't arrive today. Seems like all of the active Montreal posters in this thread got theirs yesterday, and my apartment building has a history of having mail get misdelivered or lost. I don't want to ask SSHRC to resend it so soon after the initial mailing, but I really don't want this waiting to continue for several more days/weeks. Ugh. This is far too stressful.
  10. Ah, hell. I wonder if I'll be joining you on the mutliple-waitlist fun ride tomorrow.
  11. But hey, at least some budget has been opened up for the upcoming Royal visit! (Yeah, I'm a tad bitter about that.)
  12. I'm definitely getting that feeling, too, despite the promises to myself that I wouldn't go all hyper-pessimistic. Really, REALLY wishing that my letter had arrived today with the rest of the Montreal ones. I'm bordering on a panic attack at this point. :/
