  1. Hi bellefast, I think our roads will cross somewhere there as I'll be pursuing my degree at an Interdisciplinary Program (SLAT!) Anyone else heading to U of A?
  2. I don't think they give early decisions for fulbrighters although there may be rare exceptions. On the contrary, fulbrighters usually learn later because we can't simply log in to univ. account and check application status or colleges will not send direct mails to us. IIE gets the news first, they forward the result to Fulbright representative in your country and they let you know as soon as possible
  3. Payment stuff is terribly annoying although I am a Fulbright scholarship grantee. The only thing is that you have to leave the USA for two years if you want to come back and work/live there. It works well for me because I really want to come back home with a great education background + amazing network at the end of 4-5 years. Good luck everyone!
  4. I spent a weekend at DC and just loved the area! I am sure you will learn/enjoy a lot during your time at Georgetown! I am in the process of making a decision but I am likely to end up with U of AZ as they have a great SLA program which is interdisciplinary (more than 10 departments, 70+ faculty). I know some people prefer small programs but I have a wide variety of interests, so it will be amazing to have lots of alternatives for choosing a minor! I am specifically interested in the implementation of educational technologies into L2 learning/teaching settings and I am currently working on a project in which pre-service teachers are using a microblogging website to develop community service projects and I'm focusing on the online collaborative learning side of the project Boston is truly amazing and it must be really exciting to present at AAAL!! I wish you the best luck! (PM on the way!)
  5. I will be starting my PhD journey at U of AZ in Tucson and it would be nice to make some friends before coming to the States. Anyone who is in the same situation with me? I am really excited about Tucson and overall Arizona experience!!
  6. Are there any forum members who focus on Second Language Acquisition / TESL / Applied Linguistics here? It would be nice to meet some people sharing similar interests.
  7. I like the idea much and hope that more and more conferences will be added to the database. It is a good idea to be able to submit a conference details via 'Submit' section. Good luck and thx!
  8. Great topic! Thanks everyone who contributed it!

Thanks kriskros for the great information! I will definitely go and see first before signing up! Great to see old posts here as well. Thanks!
  10. Push notification on my phone here and I've installed Gmail Notifier to the PC + checking it out manually in case the programs do not work well
  11. Good to find fellow Fulbrighters here! @Dea, I wish you good luck with the upcoming results. I know they have allocated a certain budget for every student but they have told us that if some Fulbrighters are offered extra scholarship or less tuition (like in-state tuition), they use the rest of the budget to help the others. I remember something like that. You may ask to the commission in Indonesia and see if it is same there. Worth a try! @BruceWayne24 thanks for the heads up! $21.500 for 10 months I guess. Where are the other foreign Fulbrighters? Show up and say "Hi"
  12. I will probably offer something like this to my instutition if no such thing exists there. Great idea and very helpful! Thank you

Thanks for the useful information! I am seriously considering UofA and I am excited to live in Tucson. I have been to Flagstaff, Sedona and Phoenix for a couple of days for traveling purposes and quite enjoyed my time there. I know living in the desert can be challenging but I am coming from a town where summers are hotter than Tucson! (Ok, 1 or 2 C but still!). I am used to dry weather and I believe I won't have any problem regarding the weather conditions. Would you recommend living in other areas rather than Sam Hughes? I am planning to come with my spouse and would like to know which areas are rather safer. Another question would be about the estimated cost of accommodation. For two persons, including utilities, how much do you think I would pay for rent monthly? and do you think I can find a nice place with reasonable price if I arrive by August 9? (Orientation is likely to be that day and I will have more than a week to search for a place) Sorry for tons of questions. Not easy when you come from across the ocean!
  14. I have 6 applications sent and heard from two of them so far. Now waiting for the other results to be announced but as I already got accepted to a department of preference, I feel good right now and no worries Great topic btw, thanks for it. A question maybe: How much do you think average Fulbright stipend will be? I know it mostly depends on the State you will be living but any idea? Let's say New York, Florida and Arizona?
  15. I really like this topic as I am also planning to move to the States with my partner this August. I have been to the US twice before (almost 4 months of experience in total) and that really changes things a lot! I want to get enrolled in the program offered in AZ. The orientation will be in early August and the school will begin in the third week or something. You think the time between is enough to search for a house and be settled in? It is good idea to get familiar with the area before the arrival and I will believe it will save lots of time and less time for adaptation will be required. Good luck everyone!
