  1. Anybody out there a) going to Michigan's visit weekend, arriving to the airport in Detroit during the afternoon on 3/12, and c) want to share a cab from the airport to Ann Arbor? Long odds I know, but worth a shot...
  2. Sociocultural at Yale had some interviews a few weeks back. I had two interviews on Feb 9 and 10, and this morning (well, 6:30pm EST) I just received an email from a POI at Yale notifying me of admission, with a formal letter to come. In her email she mentioned that I had probably heard from one of my other POIs by now (though, I haven't), so I think that means their decisions have been made and professors have been cleared to make contact if they want. My impression is that some schools let POIs get a jump on contacting people, while others don't allow contact between the decision-making period and official notification. Yale seems to operate like the former. Not sure if that's good or bad news, but it's news so I hope it helps... Good luck to all!
  3. Oh man that downtime was killing me. I put up the Stanford interview invite. Looks like they're aiming for 14 applicant interviews back-to-back-to-back, all on the same day from 9am to 4pm. With no lunch break. I guess they'll be snacking while listening? Not sure if all the invites have gone out yet or not, but it was just a generic email to "Dear ANTHRO Graduate Admissions Applicant," so that sounds like a batch email. Good luck to all! There's light at the end of this tunnel somewhere.
  4. Not funny! Thanks for the update Oceanus. And congrats on the admit! Can I ask, who was your POI?
  5. Wow. That's a serious punch in the stomach and not cool at all. I'm so sorry! Karmically, now you're due some awesome news from somewhere else!
  6. Hey mondinec and snowswirl, thanks for your responses. I also had the request for the mini summary. Glad to know it wasn't because they read my SOP and said, wtf is this guy talking about?
  7. Anyone else just get a generic email from Hopkins? I just received the following: "Your application for Ph.D. in Anthropology Program is now complete and will be reviewed shortly. For information regarding the status of your application be sure to log into your AY application account. You may also contact the department directly for more information. Contact information can be found here:http://grad.jhu.edu/academics/programs/." At first I thought it was results, but it just says my application is complete and ready to be reviewed. Except I confirmed all my stuff was in at the deadline. Wondering if there's a mistake with my materials, or if everybody who applied there just got a similar notice...
  8. Ugh just finished my interview with NYU, via skype. Just with one professor, who was *super* nice. Which became important, because the connection was terrible. I live in a country where the infrastructure is extremely limited, so the call dropped every minute or two. We talked for an hour, but it felt like I had a chance to say basically nothing. And what I did say, I have no idea how much of it she actually heard. Heart breaking too because she wanted to ask about my master dissertation, which was really influenced by her research and I was so fired up about discussing it with her! And we never got there... There was a lot of laughter at least and it felt like a nice conversation. But my oh my would I like to have another chance. If I have any other interviews, I will definitely be requesting that we arrange two ways to make the call - skype, but also that they call my mobile. Suggest others do the same!
  9. That's a super good idea. Kinda weirds me out just how much I can unpack based upon locations. So much more aware of those borderline-plagarism cases where chains of footnotes appear suspiciously familiar, and then you see that the small town where the person spends the summer was repeatedly checking a paper...
  10. It was a personal email from one of the people I mentioned in my SOP, though not one of the two I highlighted as having the most direct alignment in research interests. Not sure what that means - if she's fulfilling a role on the committee, if the other two aren't interested or available (one is on sabbatical, I do know that), if they think I'd be better suited to working with her, etc...
  11. Yeah, I'm confused by the NYU acceptance too. I'm one of NYU interviewees (huzzah!), and the email from them said "I am pleased to tell you that you are under serious consideration for admission to the NYU Anthropology Department, although we are still working with a long list and have not made any decisions yet." But, perhaps, someone just completed their interview and something was said verbally that led them to conclude they have been accepted, though it would be informal at this stage...
