  1. Do all accepted students get interviewed for this program?
  2. Yeah. I figure I'll apply to two PREP programs and if I don't get accepted I will try to get a tech job. Hopefully some extra research experience and higher GRE scores will help. Thanks for your suggestions and advice! I really appreciate it!!!! Good luck with your applications!
  3. I applied this season to 9 PhD schools: Drexel, Rutgers Molec Biosciences, Carnegie Mellon, U Mass Med, Rockefeller, Einstein, U Mass Amherst, Stony Brook, and Princeton. I have received 3 formal rejections from U mass med, rockefeller and rutgers. I am hoping one of the others will accept me. I am preparing for the possibility or no acceptances. So I am going to apply to the einstein and upenn prep programs in hopes of something working out.
  4. My uGPA is a 3.09 right now. I have a year of lab and TA experience. The grad schools I applied to do not feel that that is enough. I don't want to do a masters because it will cost a lot of money. I thought this might be a good alternative.
  5. Hi Guys! Has anyone heard of or participated in the NIH-funded PREP programs? Is this a good substitute for a masters? Or a good substitute for a research tech spot? I am trying to figure out what to do if I don't get an acceptance this admissions season. Thanks!
  6. Has Stony Brook made their decisions yet? Also, do they interview?
  7. Thank you for your support and kind words. That's a great point that failure is part of science. I am not going to give up. Thanks to all of the help and advice I have received for everyone on this post I am going to try to get a job as a research tech in an academic lab. Then I will apply either this upcoming Fall or the Fall after, depending on what my final uGPA is. How much time in a research lab should I work in until reapplying?
  8. I was afraid of that. I had a rough start to college which is still hurting me with my gpa. I love what I do and I hope to eventually go to grad school. Do you think I would be better off going for a masters or working in an academic lab as a tech? Thank you for your honesty and response.

If not, what should I do to improve? Thanks!
  10. Hi all, I am finishing my senior year of my undergrad. I have applied to several universities for their biology PhD programs. I have yet to get an acceptance. As I am anxiously awaiting I am planning an alternative route if need be. I have been told by professionals in my field to work in a laboratory if I am not accepted and then reapply. However, I am considering the master's route. My undergrad performance is not that great and my GRE is average. I have 1 year of experience in a microbio research lab and am in process of my second semester of being a TA. I do not know what to do. Should I apply for a masters or try to get a job in a lab? If the latter should I focus my job search on academic labs or on industry/pharmaceutical labs? Thanks!
