  1. Man... the Coop bookstore is just amazing. It's like a department store... I went to a pretty tiny college for undergrad and while our bookstore had the owner's dogs, it was tiny! Every time I go into the Coop my mind is just blown. I will say in terms of wardrobe that I've found a few fabulous blogs that have inspired me... some people pull crazy tricks to keep out the cold and still look swanky! Layered tights, layered dresses, layered anything. I have also heard that silk long-johns layered under pants work wonders to keep out the cold. Wardrobe witchcraft! And cozy bookstore sweatshirts help too. I imagine that a nice warm thermos of tea or coffee is obligatory for warmth. Anyway, people: it's Monday of what might be the week! Ahhhh! I just want to know! Want to get those ducks in a row. Haha, sorry to keep rambling about clothes... staying warm and cozy and fabulous are all important things though.
  2. My thoughts exactly exactly. It's been so nice having a group of awesome folks who know what I'm going through! I did an admitted students day at GWU yesterday and it was the same thing... Like, idensdgdsg, HGSE, I'm keyboard smashing for you. We can do it! Haha, I have a little bit of an online window shopping habit, so acquiring a ~*fancy grad school wardrobe*~ is on my mind a lot. I rocked a lot of dresses in undergrad that will hold up, but we will see about my threadbare Target tees. Best. Breakfast. Ever! Yay, GradCafe is swell. Only two more days, maybe? I'm on my way up to Philly to spend the day at my alma mater to distract me.
  3. Whoa. Tell me more about this challenge. You are a BAMF. CQE, I am fully in favor of a gif thread. Also, the Grad Cafe bond is so awesome, you guys. I'm so happy I've found this place where all of us can go bonkers over this process together. It's been swell!
  4. I've heard it explicitly and seen it other places. Admissions is definitely need-blind.
  5. Yep, mine's the same. I think, anyway. And I also got that Financial Aid status email and almost flipped out. I'm at work in a quiet museum atm so flailing is (ALAS) out of the question. And welcome, dodoeducation! What program did you apply for?
  6. Oh maaan! Well, your awesomeness just exuded from the essay so much that even the admissions folks didn't notice it! I feel the same way though about any awkward phrasing in my essay. Fingers crossed! Haha, welcome back, Loseric! I'm too scared to potentially hack into HGSE's admissions system, lol. I don't want to jinx anything. The admissions leprechauns will get me or something. I agree that the decisions day seems terrifyingly close now. My little sister is visiting me this week so at least I have some fun company to distract me!
  7. Thanks man! If only HGSE used GradCafe participation as a supplement. Oh, if only... I'm the SAME way. I looked over it once more after submitting it and I found an Awkwardly Phrased Line, and I had multiple people looking over this thing, and of course I looked over it a thousand times before submitting it, and so I just made the ultimate *facepalm* Thanks, Airwick!
  8. Haha, I just didn't want to be mistaken for anything but the most diligent GradCafe reader.
  9. Yeah, I believe it! I've heard a bunch of random reasons why it's called the Windy City so it's good to have a history major weigh in
  10. nooooooo. noooooo. My soul is banking on the 5th. don't Horcrux me, HGSE.
  11. If it makes you feel better, I recently read that Boston actually is the windiest city in the U.S., not Chicago (Chicago ranks far below it). Maybe that says something about Midwestern vs. Bostonian weather craziness as a whole!
  12. my most-visited webpage just jumped to Reddit instead of Facebook & Gmail... oh goodness. I read the AskHistorians subreddit a lot. love. And any of the food subreddits. mmmm.
  13. Yep, based on previous threads, I've been expecting a HGSE decision this coming Tuesday (the 5th). My date prediction above was for admitted students weekend though buuut it was pure speculation, not unlike a wooorld of pure imagination (Willy Wonka song? haha). Does anyone have any more info on when the admitted students weekend might be? Like I posted above, I have a guess, but I also think it's funny that the admitted students weekend is so soon after decisions. I think my GWU admitted students weekend comes 2.5 weeks after my acceptance though, so idk. I dooon't eeeven knooow anymore.
  14. So excited about Graceling. Finishing up Tamora Pierce's Trickster's Queen at the moment (haven't read the Trickster books before and I'm loving them, though the Daine series is my favorite). As for dystopian or, at the very least, heavy fantasy tinged with sci fi, I recommend: Across the Universe by Beth Reavis The Libyrinth trilogy by Pearl North (SO. GOOD.)
  15. I stalked HGSE threads from the last few years and it looks like it was the thirdish weekend in March last year. Maybe I'm misremembering though? MTE, ASzofer!
  16. You're among kindred countdowning spirits here, don't worry.
  17. I'm in YA mode too... lots of Tamora Pierce at the moment! I am also really excited to see people reading John Green on here too... He is just awesome (so is the vlogbrothers youtube channel and the five kajillion other things John Green does). I also just picked up Graceling by Kristin Cashore at the library... Super excited. I'm also intrigued by this Razorland series you all have mentioned! (I recommend Across the Universe for another fun dystopia series.)
  18. Any suggestions for someone coming to the PC side of things after five years on a Mac? While I want it for grad school work, I also (haha) am hoping to play more video games on it than I could on my Mac.
  19. Great insights, sunshinegrl! Well, we will just have to keep our collective fingers crossed.
  20. p.s. we can dooo it, everyone! *Rosie the Riveter pose*
  21. As for admission statistics... Hmm. We know HGSE doesn't publish their acceptance statistics per program, but you can sort of figure out a rough estimate if you know how many people are in a particular program's average cohort. http://www.petersons.com/graduate-schools/harvard-university-graduate-school-of-education-000_10030486.aspx That idea - not the calculation, mind! - is as far as I've gotten. Off the top of my head, the larger cohorts include AIE and TIE (both around 40). Other big cohorts? Higher ed is smaller, I think EPM is smaller (might be wrong there, idk).
  22. On the bright side: at least we're done with taxes well before April 15. Possibly only one week to go for HGSE! Gulp.
  23. You are not alone. I think of Legally Blonde first too. /highfive And GOOD LUCK. You are going to make an awesome decision no matter what.
  24. Yeah! LinkedIn is a lovely combo of low stress and high usefulness. I just have a free account so they don't tell me everyone who looked at my profile, boo hiss. Oh well!
  25. Wow! So didn't someone say they were only hoping to fill two slots for the Higher Ed Ed.D concentration? And we know two! (Maybe there'll be more though!) CONGRATS!
