  1. congrats! had shared previously, but I talked with GSAS a while ago because of needing to update an email addy. They said that there were no guarantees on when notifications were going out but that as a school every letter leaves the dept. by March 15. Seems everywhere this year I've applied to is notifying later than they historically have. I think March 1 is the earliest we'll hear personally, but only time will tell. I'm just not getting myself worked up over anything until then because it doesn't seem worth it.
  2. I personally highly doubt to hear anything from Harvard before March 1. I wouldn't be surprised if it's closer to the March 15 dealine that they send out letters by.
  3. congrats sidewalks! hopefully we start getting more news rolling in here soon since we're past the half-way mark of Feb
  4. so sorry notaprettygrrrl. Obvi Michigan wanted to show their love to you today -sarcasm- Fingers crossed that it only gets better for all of us from here on out!
  5. For Brown's AMS program it looks like late Feb/early March from the results board (Feb. 29 from last year) ..either way if it's an Ivy League I wouldn't expect anything until mid-March. I'm not getting myself worked up over it
  6. Interesting indeed to hear what the fellow applicants are interested in! Well my interests are a bit hodge-podge, as are most of ours. My background is in colonial history, constitutional law & politics, and post WW2 history. I'm really primarily interested in the intersection of politics, history, and popular culture. Something that has always struck me about the current application-age generation is that so many people say things like "I hate politics" and "I don't participate in politics" when in fact, politics of all types (not just legal) run the planet and society. It's interesting to me how people don't understand that every action they make is in fact political in a certain light. I like to focus all of my ideas back to Colonial American history and the founding of the American nation and I like to trace present day phenomena back to their roots and look at how (more often than not) things haven't profoundly changed as much as the American public likes to verbalize that they have. I have done some work with nostalgia and cultural memory in relation to all of this, but my proposed thesis is a little different. If you followed that train of thought you get a gold star-not an application decision, I know, but it's the small victories right?
  7. for all those who are interested: talked to UNC, they said they are still reviewing apps and are starting to make decisions. If you haven't heard in a few weeks you should call. Maryland expects to notify in March. also, as promised-Keepin' the Hope Alive http://grooveshark.com/playlist/Keepin+The+Hope+Alive/82640459
  8. I made an attempt to contact POIs at a few of the programs that I applied to, but for a few others I felt that the pre-app conatct wouldn't be as appreciated as it is in the hard sciences, etc. so I stayed away with the intent of hopefully not annoying anyone. I also did identify POIs at all programs regardless of whether I contacted them or not. I'm working on a a keeping the hope alive playlist that I'm going to post to my Grooveshark account and I'll post the link here for anyone who needs some positive energy. =)
  9. my sympathies. I suppose at least all of us are in the same boat-not that it'll make it any better but misery does love company. here's hoping it won't matter to any of us come March because we'll all have our choice of all of the other programs we applied to!
  10. Minnesota rejection just came in
  11. Yes, good luck!! And most definitely congrats for getting to the interview stage!
  12. anyone else apply to UNC? I know their website says that they typically start to notify in February but it might be until April
  13. my Minnesota app finally changed to "final review" this morning, so I guess I'll know by the end of the week...confidence is not particularly high at this point but I'm hanging on to "we built this city" to keep the dream alive just remember we all have an (extremely) long month of waiting ahead of this-the grass will be greener on the other side right?? also, I attempted to find a video of Boston's "Peace of Mind" to no avail...but I think it's rather fitting for all of us at this moment
  14. good luck everyone-might I recommend putting fun. 's "Some Nights" on repeat? it got me through studying for the GRE. I'm feeling like it might be a good time to break out the karaoke in order to keep ourselves from going (more) insane than some of us already are: I give you this glorious 1980s classic as my attempt to make everyone smile; please enjoy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nsdj9NRzqC4
  15. My app hasn't changed, but at least we all will hopefully know within the next week!
  16. woah the forum got active last night-suppose that's what I get for going to bed early! PhDreams-so sorry about UCLA, but that just means you'll get even better news from Harvard, Yale, NYU-or all of them!! I don't have feelings either way about Minnesota per se, I'm just spazzing out and wishing we all knew. Keeping the hope alive over here!
  17. PhD when in March? (no longer in undergrad, perception of semester timeline is gone...)
  18. When I talked to Harvard GSAS last week they said the last letters would go out March 15 but that we could hear sooner. I'm doubting we'll hear from them before late Feb.
  19. sorry-I was reading the forum on my phone yesterday and didn't even see your post! I've got nothing on my end, but I can assure you as soon as I get any response and I stop sweating bullets and having dreams about getting emails from the programs I'll let everyone in here know. where else did you apply adventurous?
  20. If I could just hear from one place I applied I'd be happy to wait 2, 3, 4 months for all the rest. Minnesota is the first to notify of my apps, but there's 2 more that are early-mid February and the rest late February to early March I'm fairly certain my fiancée is going to cut me off from the Internet to save my sanity if it takes a whole lot longer for the first response...
  21. I actually emailed a POI that my undergraduate adviser recommended to me back in September and I didn't get a response until late December-he specifically apologized for the late response because it was a "hellish semester" so I wouldn't fret too much!
  22. I suppose that's better than me. I'm at work and I have the results search open, this thread open, and my ApplyWeb login page open in addition to work related stuff
  23. anyone else feel like it should be illegal to receive email as long as we're still waiting to hear? I'm finding alumni association emails at least twice as irritating as usual...
  24. talked to Harvard on Friday (email address needed changing...gee thanks undergrad for changing our addresses NOW) they said that the last letters will leave GSAS on March 15, but we may hear sooner. I suppose that's better than nothing
  25. Congrats!!! Yes, I'm also interested to hear the details of your wait-list to Minnesota. Nothing has changed on my application at all...
