  1. Hahahah, didn't see this one coming.
  2. Agreed. It's particularly depressing in light of most of the schools I applied to traditionally not saying anything 'till the end of February. How much longer do you have left in Germany?
  3. Hahaha, I agree. TV isn't quite doing it, so I'm trying out p90x. Now I hurt physically even more than checking gradcafe daily hurts my soul
  4. I had a similar situation last year. Arguably my top choice school sent me a letter saying "Congratulations on ..." The professor who sent it was my main POI at the school, so it seemed completely plausible. I was over the moon. Then I started noticing little errors in the letter regarding what I was supposed to be studying there. Turns out the professor had somehow accidentally sent that letter to all of their applicants. I suppose that sucks quite a bit for her, but it was no fun for me either. It was quickly followed by a retraction, and a rejection shortly thereafter haha. It wasn't funny at the time, though I suppose now it's quite humorous.
  5. Surviving! Haven't tried much of West Wing, but I've been watching Sherlock (though now I have to wait another 2 years for the next season. F.), the Big Bang Theory, and a lot of Spanish soccer matches. February/March can't get here soon enough!
  6. Hopefully you're right! Yeah, EU monetary politics and financial regulation are my primary areas of interest. I'm 99% done with my SOP. Just putting finishing touches on it. It's a bit different than my other ones, so it's taking a bit longer! Dr. Bimber seems interesting (though I didn't read much about him, since his area of research was clearly very different than mine...)
  7. Interesting. Mind if I ask who you're hoping to work with? I'm going for IR and am hoping they'll let me pick political economy as my self-defined field. Really hoping to work with Dr. Cohen. Have you already finished your SOP?
  8. Aah, ok haha. I was all surprised that I suddenly had 2 responses! Oh well
  9. Is anyone here either applying to the doctoral program at UCSB or already a student/faculty member there?
  10. Hey, sounds great. I'll PM you my SOP!
  11. Hey, would anyone be up for exchanging SOPs? (I'm applying to IR tracks at Pittsburgh, UCSB, Georgetown, UNC, George Mason and Notre Dame, focusing on European integration.) If so, let me know!
  12. Hi Corina, glad to see that someone started this topic! I'm considering applying for the graduate institute for Fall of 2014 (PhD in International Relations). How about you?
  13. Hi everyone, I was just wondering if any of you are considering applying, have applied, and/or have been accepted to the IR program at LSE (MPhil/PhD). If so, do you happen to have any info on what they're looking for in the way of a dissertation proposal? Obviously I don't want a topic or some magic formula. I'm just curious about the level of detail, specifically regarding methodology. I already have a master's degree where I got some methods training, and I know LSE does give some extra methods training, but I'm not quite sure how much methods background they expect me to have while applying. Any input would be helpful. Thanks in advance!
