  1. Hello. I will be attending my first group interview soon and was curious if anyone had insight on to what group interviews are like. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
  2. Hello. I was recently asked to participate in a group interview for a program that I applied to. I was wondering if anyone on here had any insight on what to expect in a group interview for a MSW program? What kind of questions are usually asked of applicants? What is the format like? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
  3. Thanks for the information, hopefulmsw2013! Looks like I've got a couple more weeks to wait. Best of luck to you, too. Congrats on the schools you've been accepted to!
  4. I have recently submitted the last of my applications and was curious as to how long the average wait is to receive your admissions decision from a school. A few of the deadlines have passed for my applications, but not all of them. Do schools generally wait until their deadlines have passed before reviewing applications and making decisions? Do they typically send out rejection letters or acceptance letters first? Are admissions decisions generally sent through the mail or in electronic form? Any information would be greatly appreciated!
  5. I am definitely nervous about not getting in anywhere, though it wouldn't be the end of the world if I didn't - I would definitely have to reevaluate my plans, however. Sent in my last application yesterday. I just graduated college, too, so I have been applying to jobs as well. I had an interview for a position within my field, but I am not sure if they will hire me if I plan on (hopefully) attending grad school in the fall. If I don't get in anywhere, though, that would be fairly humiliating. Like others on here, it would be awful to have to tell my undergraduate professors that I was rejected. The applications are in, however, and now it's out of my hands. If I don't get accepted by any of my schools, I suppose I will just continue applying to jobs and try to gain some more experience before reapplying.
  6. I have the exact same issue. I bought thank-you cards, but I was wondering if sending a gift would be appropriate or not. I would have to mail all of mine, too. I was also considering gift cards, though I'm not sure to which establishments. Any ideas?
  7. I've applied to four so far. I have two more left, one due at the end of this month. It's unnerving to wait for responses, but the community on here is great! Generally, though, I just try to keep myself busy.
  8. Hello. Does anyone know if SUNY Albany offers graduate assistantships to its social work grad students?
  9. I'm also applying to MSW programs. Not sure if this helps, but I've written a rough draft of my personal statement and it's in essay format, with all of the questions answered throughout it. Best of luck!
  10. That's good to know! Cost is definitely a huge factor for me in attending grad school. Do they offer any assistantships?
  11. I have been uncertain if I should send transcripts from both, as I did have the credit transferred. I do think that I will contact the schools I am applying to, however, and see what they require. It is better to be safe than sorry.
  12. Okay. Thanks everyone for the advice!
  13. Okay. Thanks so much for your input!
  14. I am beginning the process of sending transcripts to the grad schools that I am applying for and I have a few questions. In high school, I took a few college classes at a community college. I had the credits transferred to my current undergrad university a few years back. Most schools that I'm applying for require transcripts from all undergraduate institutions in which credit was earned. Does this mean that I have to have a transcript sent from both my current undergrad university as well as the community college? Or can I exclude a transcript from the community college? Thanks so much for your help!
  15. Thanks so much for the advice, everyone! socialworkphd, your post was super helpful! Thank you.
  16. The schools that I plan on applying to include: SUNY Albany SUNY Binghamton New York University Salem State University Boston University WUSTL I'm going to ask for recommendations this week. Does anyone have any personal insight into the MSW programs at any of the above?
  17. When applying to graduate schools for MSW programs, what makes a strong personal/professional statement? What makes a weak one?
  18. This may be a ridiculous question, but when applying to MSW programs, what exactly is an advanced generalist program? Is this clinical or macro based?
  19. Yeah, all of the programs that I'm applying to only have fall enrollment.
  20. I am graduating with my undergraduate degree in December and will be applying soon to graduate schools for my MSW for Fall 2013. Will my graduating early hinder or help me or be irrelevant when applying to grad schools?
  21. Hello. I'm fairly green to this site as well as the graduate school application process. I plan on applying to six schools for my MSW, with a clinical concentration in mind. Most of these schools require a resume to be submitted with the application. I have been working on the resume recently, but I am not sure what I should include...other than the basic information. What do they generally look for when you submit a resume for this type of program?
