  1. Hi everyone! Glad there are many of us here. I just had a disturbing email from amideast ( the IIE equivalent in the middle east) after finishing all applications saying that I have to be patient while they recieve news from all schools and negotiate and then choose for me!! I thought I would get to decide from the acceptances since they already approved those schools to begin with. I am very worried now that my school of choice (johns Hopkins) would accept me and they would send me to my safety school- for example just to save some bucks. I understand how lucky we are for this opportunity that I could have never afforded or went through with it if not for Fulbright but this waiting game and the uncertainty is really draining me. Any one here with a similar experience ? When do I start worrying ? And if the schools I applied on my own want me to decide before Fulbright has contacted me , what then? Good luck everybody with your process
  2. Now my gre results are thankfully up and reached Schools (at least JH Says so) And the last App will be finished tomorrow thus the waiting games really start. Has anyone heard from Schools with earlier deadlines? I am an obcessive worrier ,So it is really hard for me when that much is on Stake here !! I Keep thinking About doing one of those dreadful "what are my chances?" Posts . l Know nobody Can give You an Answer to that question except may be the Admission office at the university, but the process is just Sooo looooong!! I don't Know about you guys but I started my application last February So.... Anyway.-ignore this post it is for venting purposes I had the roughest month of my life. [swamped at Work, Master Exams, GRE, Toe fl, Applications and a breakup ,though that was actually for the best] Good luck you all and if anybody is applying this year and questions please PM as well I would happy to share anything I can and don't worry,I am not usually that crazy.
  3. I have just started finishing applications since my chosen masters programs have later deadlines. ( Mostly late Jan) I am so dreading the waiting game once I finish all my apps and have nothing to distract me from worrying Does anyone know if having a Fulbright can compensate for incomplete app by deadline ( My GRE results are delayed due to name problems )?
  4. I am international student applying for MPH and I was wondering if someone has experience with this program. It is such a unique experience and I cannot find an equivalent in any other school. Especially that I am very interested in mental health and/or neuropsychiatric epidemiology. Does any body know if having a general degree in epidemiology or behavioral science is better for job opportunities or pursuing a PhD in the future. Any advice would be appreciated since I cannot apply to so many programs - Fulbright Nominee and they limit the no of apps- so I better make the best of it. Also other options might be: Emory Yale Maryland +/- Michigan so if you have input on those schools it would be highly appreciated.
  5. I was just thinking the same since we internationals can hardly be as comfortable in verbal with all those bizzare words that I have never seen in my whole life even though I have been studying everything in English since kindergarten !! Does anybody know if the same rules specially in verbal apply to international applicants as well?
  6. The big dream is to establish a program for screening and early detection of mental health problems and plan national intervention programs for child and adolescent mental health, something that is lacking entirely in my country as well as most third world countries Public health is never a paper work job in my opinion and that is why I want to pursue a degree in the states ( JHSPH to be specific) because most of these degrees are theory and method; meaning field work, instead of continuing the degree I am doing currently to end up doing the same thing I am doing now - teaching and doing administrative work the way I see it is I have to get my hands dirty- figuratively - in the field work and epidemiology before I sit behind a desk for planning and policy
  7. I was also wondering the same think . I have an excellent grade in all subjects throughout med school , but % wise it is 92.1 so I was wondering if this translates to a 4.0 GPA or less That link was very helpful and many thanks for sharing it , it says that means for my country A to A+ , so am still a bit confused about how this translates into GPA - if it helps I think i am at about 96th percentile , 27th place in a class of 1250-
  8. After reading threads from previous years , I realized how grueling the process will be even for those of us who are already nominated and passed the Fulbright application process So far all I have seen are American students , mainly ETAs sharing tips and I believe the process is totally different and much harder for us who either want to Pursue graduate education in the states or are FLTAs I hope we can use this space for support and advice regarding the long road ahead Please share your experience and information regarding : Toefl GRE preparation and test scores Applications process Universities SOP Acceptance or rejections IIE responses ...etc And hopefully at some point we can exchange tips about visa , accommodations and travel plans Good luck every one
  9. Well done littleprincess , congratulations I think those scores are gr8 given they put you above 50th percentile ffor most of those schools. Actually I would like to read everyone's procpect on this since I have a very similar situation being an international student with a fulbright grant for an MPH as well and my choices are almost identical to yours-though my dream school is JHSPH Bloomberg However I haven't done the GRE yet , since the voucher was sent just yesterday and I am really terrified of this test because it is the only part of my application that is comparable to american applicants and I have very limited time to prepare so I want to know what should be my target score I am a physician and working now as a TA for community at med school while working on a master degree at my home institute I have an undergraduate GPA of I guess 3.9 or 4,0-converted to american system- with honors, and postgrad so far all my grades are A or A- my biggest weakness is that I have limited research experience -RA on couple of thesis and a WHO project-though none where I were a principal author and my practical experience is mostly clinical as a med student then an intern, in addition to some importent volunteer work e,g. medical convoys to underprivilaged areas , health surveys , screening programs , charity work ,..... I also had a two month clerkship grant while being an intern at GWU and had a training seminar grant to a work with a group of the best professors in the field of child psychaitry and mental health-my main focus- last summer, though what do you think? am I aiming too high
